I'm not a medical expert, so I consulted the Mayo Clinic via the Google School of Medicine. Is this accusation coming from one of Margaret's many secret love children?

It's coming from the author of the new biography on Margaret. Apparently the author is basing the claim on the claim that the late QEQM was a "heavy daytime drinker." The book sounds like a slam against the RF.

Back in the day, expectant mothers were encouraged to have a drink or two to relax. Women were also encouraged to smoke! My doctor prescribed a glass of wine every night, but it tasted like vinegar so I stuck to non-alcoholic drinks. So it QM was having drinks during her pregnancies, it wasn't against the mores or doctor's orders. It stands to reason that if Margaret had FAS then her older sister had it too.

The article states: "The future Queen Elizabeth was 4 when her sister was born, but the Queen Mother was allegedly turned off by alcohol during her pregnancy with Elizabeth.

"The sight of wine simply turns me up! Isn’t it extraordinary! It will be a tragedy if I never recover my drinking powers," the Queen Mother wrote in a 1925 letter to her husband, the Telegraph said."

So it seems the Queen Mother did not drink while pregnant to the late Queen.

The author claims Elizabeth didn't drink alcohol during her first pregnancy because wine made her sick.

The claim that Margaret FAS is absurd. She did not have any delayed development. She was intelligent, witty, and charming (when she wanted to be).

I just love it when authors throw out revelations about their subjects without a shred of proof plus, as always, throws the FAS claim about Margaret when she's been dead for many years, in addition to her sister and mother also gone. Of course, if Secrest published when Margaret was alive, she could have faced a possible defamation complaint.
If QEQM was sickened by wine during her first pregnancy, she may have been put off of it during her second pregnancy. My mother couldn't abide grape Kool-Aid, she became sick off of it during her first pregnancy and the sight of it made her sick from then on.
My point is, provide conclusive proof. I worked with a person with FAS and Margaret never showed any of the traits associated with FAS.

The author uses Margaret's size and height as "proof" she had FAS. Margaret's mother and maternal aunts were all quite short, so to me it seems genetics were responsible for her height, not FAS. I also think Margaret got Queen Alexandra's slender build. Common sense...

Margaret's sister was small in height and weight also....it ran in the family with the women. So according to the author, being a small woman (height and weight) is a cardinal sign of FAS....wrong and misleading.
