1937 - King George VI and HM Queen Elizabeth were crowned at Westminster Abbey on the date previously intended for his brother's coronation. In a break with tradition, his mother, HM Queen Mary attended the ceremony in a show of support for her Son.

When I see this photo I always think Queen Mary looks like she's near to tears.

Thank you both for posting those wonderful photos. Seeing the late queen and her sister as little girls makes my heart ache a bit.

Prince Charles did not attend that coronation - of course! My mistake.

Queen Mary did shed a tear.
