VE Day

All thos week here in the UK there are events to mark the 80th anniversary of VE and it struck me heavily this morning as I sit watching the first events take place. She will not be there. For the first time VE celebrations will take place without Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The last big VE Day anniversary that was publically marked was the 70th Anniversary (75th one was in 2020 and obvious reason there was no public celebrations). The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh attended a Thanksgiving Service at Westminster Abbey. Other events took place as well.

The King, the Queen, Princess Royal (who is wearing her Mother's Uniform) and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence arrive for this morning Military Parade.

Is this the first time Anne's worn her mother's uniform? Seeing her in it is so moving.

Wonderful to see the Duke of Kent was able to be there as well. Wonderful display. Wish I could have been there to see it myself.

The Duke and his sister are the only members of the RF left who have firsthand memories of WWII. Prince Michael and the Duke of Gloucester were born during the war and would have no memory of it.

I love how Anne looked around, saw the Duke standing at the back of the balcony, and gestured for him to come to the front. That was a lovely and caring thing to do.
