Happy 24th birthday to Princess Aiko. I can write with confidence that I will not see a ruling Empress in Japan in my lifetime. The Conservatives and Ultra Conservatives in the Govt. are absolutely against female succession. It makes no difference if the public majority want the change.
Japan came close to passing a law enabling female succession nearly twenty years ago or so. That's when suddenly it was announced Fumihito and Kiko were expecting a third child and.....surprise, surprise, the baby was going to be a boy.
