Meghan and I met some years ago, and we’ve been texting ever since. She reached out and said she’d love to come to the show. There was no strategy or big orchestration. I didn’t tell anyone she was coming because I wanted it to stay a surprise. In fashion, real surprises are rare, and this one was beautiful.
Not enough info to determine whether she invited herself. She may have enquired about the show before the guest list had been determined. He may have answered that way to show that "royalty" pursued him, not vice versa.
If he didn't want her there, all he had to do was say "No!". Probably trying to have it both ways - if her visit had been a success, it would have been his stroke of genius. It was a disaster; therefore, she invited herself, and he didn't want to be rude by telling her no.
