The coup wasn't just against Mortimer, but also against Isabella, Edward III's mother, who was known as The She-Wolf of France. Edward removed her from power,put her under house arrest, and stripped her of most of her lands and wealth. Later she was allowed more freedom and Edward gave her a generous annuity. Mortimer was executed, of course.
