1327 - 14-year-old King Edward III was crowned King of England, Lord of Ireland and Duke of Aquitaine.He was crowned at Westminster Abbey. His mother and Roger Mortimer, 1st Earl of March became de facto rulers. Three years later, at the age of 17, the King led a successful coup d'état against Mortimer and began his personal reign. In August 1348, in honour of chivalry, Edward founded the Noble Order of the Garter, which is now the oldest and most prestigious order in Britain.
