As for The late Queen's pronouncements on part-time or half in/half out, I regard that as referring to commercial activities, which was a central plank in the Sussex's proposal. The Duke of Kent is clearly part-time, and has been for some time. Ditto Princess Alexandra (unless she has announced her retirement without my noticing). And in any case, what is part-time when it comes to being a working royal? Are we talking about something as easily measured as a 40 hour week?
The current number of working royals is insufficient to cover the duties that are traditional for the British Royal family in the UK, let alone the other realms, where their (often unobtrusive) presence is essential for the preservation of monarchies in them.
If Beatrice and, eventually, James and Louise, want to support the firm officially there are great benefits to their doing so.
As for their then being supported by The King, he supports working royals through a appanage provided for that purpose by the State. He does not draw on his personal fortune to do so.
