Sorry to be late, but I've been cut offline on and off. Argh! I know that it's the isp, so I'm not concerned, but it's still an aggravation.
Do you remember the first avocado that you ever had?
Also, what kind of meat do you like in tacos? Beef? Pork? Ground? Thinly sliced?
I was watching some cooking today (The weekend is when the shows that I like are on. I tape them, and watch them when it's convenient. Sometimes, when they are not super interesting, I listen to them while doing other things.) and the 4 hosts were adding avocado to their cheeseburgers.
That prompted one to say that their father never added them to burgers. Which, in turn, prompted another to note that they never had avocadoes growing up. One after another they agreed with that, the 4th one saying that she didn't think they had them then. I think that she meant at the store...
They are all from the east coast, or Midwest.
Which, of course, got me thinking...when did I eat my first avocado? How often did I eat them?
I honestly can't remember my first avocado. I think it's because we always had them, especially with my aunt having that huge tree.
I know that I ate my weight in them every summer, pretty much having them every day. It was an daily thing to come in from reading and make a sandwich with an avocado.
Then, I realized how much guacamole I've eaten in my life. I always loved it, and started making my own pretty early on, and quite a bit once I married.
So, I think that it must have a lot to do with where you grow up. Things weren't always easy to get, or commonly eaten in certain places. That's why people remember so fondly getting oranges in their stockings at Christmas. They generally did not come from the citrus producing states, originally.
As for tacos...I saw someone make a Philly cheesesteak taco. They started with a really tender piece of meat, which they cut very thinly.
Meanwhile, they charred, peeled, and seeded poblanos, which they then sliced.
Also, they cooked onion on their griddle, along with the meat.
Meanwhile, they made cheese sauce.
To serve, they put the meat in the shell with cheese sauce over, added the peppers and onions, and voila.
I would not turn one down, but my first thought when it comes to tacos, is ground, or double ground, beef.
I love tacos!
How about you?
