it made no sense, makes no sense, won't have any payoff. Humboldt is so unique, but it's not going to become some great STEM or tech school
students don't even want to go there aside for some niche reason. people should have resigned for that
and it's an embarrassment for Pomona and SLO (two of the top Cal States) to even be considered in the same breath as Humboldt.
When Humboldt became a "Cal Poly", Newsom approved a one time funding of $458 million to the school to upgrade their ciriculum. Not sure why we needed a 3rd Cal Poly and sure as hell don't know why put it in Humboldt. Although this wasn't the only contributing factor, but the CSU is now staring down at close to a 1 billion dollar projected deficit in 2025-26. College enrollment is trending down big nation wide including California. Fiscal problems won't go away without huge cuts or huge increases in tuition which they would only do as a last resort.
The CSU made one move already combining the California Maritime Academy with Cal Poly SLO. They need to do others. Everyone knows why Dominguez Hills was created but it makes no sense to have two CSU's so close to each other (about 15 miles from LBSU). Can you imagine how much money the CSU could save by combining the two schools? Eliminate all duplicative executives, duplicative schools deans, and excess administrative staff...wow that would save a ton of money and it wouldn't even impact the students. (And maybe with the additional fees charged to the students attending the LBSU North Campus in Dominguez Hills, we could actually afford to have a FBS football program )
I'm wondering what the utilization of that center is.
kudos to the major donor, but what is it resulting in? the alumni org is trying, just not sure they even know what to do. it's as if they now exist because they exist. I mean, might as well get an AI progrom to run all the Alumni news out of the assimilated data, no fault of the people just a sense they are lost at what to do. Jane gutted any idea that history was good. Per her it was based on evil because that justified her approach
It's a general problem in California. academic standards are eroding. the goal has become some statistical goal of getting degrees to just get degrees as if that equates to knowledge and academic advancement.
the State needs to close Channel Islands as a start, maybe scale down Humboldt, instead they made the ridiculous decision to classify Humboldt as a Polytechnic as if that magically would make it some STEM terrific institution, what a joke, as if branding something differently makes a real difference. maybe Stanislaus as well cut.cut some majors that are not needed. Cal State system has become bloated
opportunity is great, but it doesn't necessarily equate to excellence or even competence.
NIL and academic excellence. yeah, that'll work lol
There was a prior post here that spoke of Nil and it's affect on athletics.
I also feel the state of academia at LBSU is of major importance. Retention of professors is at an all time low. It has become a revolving door. Look at the school website as it speaks volumes. Also look at University Relations and Development (URD) where there are many vacancies.
These issues will also greatly affect player retention.
We have little alumni involvement compared to the past. This is greatly affecting the present and not in a good way. This will also affect the future.
In addition we large infrastructure expenses that are necessary and that cannot be continually kicked down the road.
This will all affect player attention and retention.
