then Boise State should leave the NCAA I guess, if their legislature don't like the rules. This is not a new issue, the rules have been in place as I stated. So I guess they aren't boycotting that a TG can play in the NCAAs, they are boycotting that a TG is plying in the NCAAs lol. Maybe just the way I look at things, and to me it makes the decision a joke.
I just think singling out SJSU is a stupid decision in this instance
I'm not someone that is thrilled at TGs playing after a recent operation, and at the same time I do think there is an amount of paranoid indignation about this as well
just play the dang match. I'm really not sure what point they are trying to prove other than depriving themselves of competition, but whatever indignation they want to whip up.. If they don't like the rule, they should not play any MWC matches at all.
imagine SJSU wining 3 straight forfeits for a bid, what a crock that doesn't prove anything. but to each their own!!
Wyoming looks like they'll play San Jose State, I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact Wyoming has a legit shot to win the MWC or a bid in teh MWCT & Boise not as much.
I read your comment as suggesting Boise knew the player was trans last year. If that's not what you meant, fine. I still have no problem with Boise boycotting this match. They waited until the issue came up. Keep in mind that Idaho has state rules regarding trans players on women's teams. Something for the NCAA and Idaho to figure out.
I did not say they knew specifically of this player ahead of the 2024 season. Please re-read.
They KNEW the rules of Transgender participation. Case closed. Those are in place since 2022.
For a trans woman student-athlete to be eligible to compete in an NCAA women’s sport, the student-athlete’s school must submit the following:
NCAA Transgender Student-Athlete Eligibility Review Form; and
Evidence of Serum Testosterone Level. Laboratory results demonstrating a one-time total serum testosterone level that is within the allowable levels for the sport in which the student-athlete plans to compete. Additionally, submitted laboratory results must be within four weeks (28 days) prior to the applicable competition date (e.g., student-athlete’s first contest of each playing season segment or championship selection date).
THose rules were in place back in 2022
Southern Utah University canceled two weeks ago.
at what exact time they had knowledge of an actual Transgender playing, I don't know, pretty sure they knew at least two weeks ago and then should have thrown in the towel before MWC play began..
Now they decided to make their 'protest', and sure if they wwant to make this a rule protest then pack it in for the season, in case there might be another unknown MWC that is TG endangering them. Have to tell you that there could be and likely a few other transgender players out there possibly, and maybe do not know about them.
again, the beef should be with the NCAA. If they did not believe teams with TGs should play, then sit out the season, if they are so mad about it.
Hey if they want to forfeit, ok. What is the NCAA and SJSU supposed to do? change their rules in mid-season?
I'm not saying I necessarily agree with the exact rules for TGs to play now, just the rule is in place and reasonable people can disagree on the rule, and the rules include testosterone monitoring for better or worse. No player should be forced to play if they feel it is unsafe. So if the BOise players really think it's unsafe, then yeah just don't play. But also would assume they would then not play Pitt or Texas or Nebraska because that's more unsafe than playing SJSU. They definitely should not play Beach cause Glenn hits the snot out of the ball.
Definitely none of those players would agree to play for or against Cal Poly or Long Beach, because those programs are unsafe as we know. Just ask Torrey Van WInden or Ashley Murray lol. The safety stuff is bogus, IMO.
the argument about advantage has merit, and IMO needs to be factoring in to the timing of when or if a TG can compete.
Why do you believe Boise knew ahead of time. From what I've read, San Jose kept the player's birth sex confidential, and didn't even tell recent transfers to San Jose about it. If you have info that shows otherwise, please present it. But, if what I've heard is true, then there is nothing "Faux" about Boise's reaction.
I do not disagree about changing the rules, IN THE FUTURE
what I do not like about BOise's decision is the rules were in place last year and this year. THEY KNEW AHEAD OF TIME. it's just faux indignation IMO. I think or suspect they are getting caught up in some overstimulated sense of indignation, from whatever outside influences from a number of sources.
to me, Boise isn't making any sort of decision of principle, UNLESS they do not play any more and forfeit the rest of their games. Their beef should be with the NCAA, not SJSU. so if you beef is the the rule (NCAA), then boycott the NCAA, not one match. But they won't have the guts to do so. and I suspect some of their players aren't too pleased, but who knows.
otherwise, it's a garbage decision by that Boise program.
they are not proving anything other than not wanting to compete. But that's my opinion.
sorry if this offends, just play the dang match, it's not some safety issue, that's flat out BS. If safety is a concern, they we should have a rule that top 10 team can't play any tteam lower than 75, cause those top 10 teams hit the crap out of the ball. Heck, we've had concussions, POly had a player with severe concusions. The safety BS is just that.
it's just a stupid decision not to play. But hey their choice and reasonable people can agree or not.
Starting with the Paris Olympics, here's the basic guidelines for transgender athletes:
The new guidelines require transgender women to have completed their transition before the age of 12 to be eligible to compete in the women's category. This rule is intended to prevent any perceived unfair advantages that might arise from undergoing male puberty.
From what I read, Blaire Fleming would not meet these terms...
her teammate, the setter, is suing the NCAA about this as well. so she's setting their best hitter, while suing saying she should not be on the team.
talk about coompartmentalizing
this is going to keep increasing attention
2nd forfeit (Utah Valley, now Boise.
San Jose State is undefeated. not only does this incrase SJSU's likely seed for the MWC tourny, it decreases BOise
the more forfeits San Jose gets, makes it easier even for their at-large profile
imagin San Jose gets two forfeits in their conference tournament, to get a NCAA bid or imagin a final of the MWC where a team forfeits the bid matchh for the NCAA
they have a 2nd match with San Jose, where I guess they'll forfeit again
wonder what Wyoming and Utah State do? If Boise opts out, my bet is the pressure will mount in those states for them to forfeit, will make a mockery of the MWC season
I doubt Fresno or SDSU or NEvada schools or Air Force forfeits.
Wyoming was a legit contendor as is Utah State & BOise to make the BWCT and possibly win it
the issue was not an issue the prior 3 seasons with this player, the teams went with the rules at that time
now that San Jose State is 9-0 it's only going get more publicity
