the new schollie rules now make it even harder, as Men's Soccer was I think 4.5 schollies and is now going full boat 12 or 13 or something
mean's adding one more women's sport like Lacross or swimming or...
so another non-starter. unless one eliminates Men's water polo, or golf or T&F, and that's not good even if they are not exactly attendence draws like soccer could be. for one we do well in those sports.
I don't think we need so much another men's sport in the fall, albeit it would be nice.
we need to do well in WVB & Women's soccer.
I think ultimate the Big West and Beach may have to face cuts to limit spending and then teh horrific debate of cutting 'country club' individual type sports tennis & Golf (even though Beach does well) vs. cutting 'team' sports.
no good decision. especially since there is a strong segment of boosters who contribute to the 'country club' sports
we all have our favorite sports. I'm at the point I could see/accept just sponsoring Basketball, Volleyball, & Baseball/Softball, & maybe T&F. but that's me. I'm sure there are those that want water polo and golf instead of my 'favorites' and they contribute a heck of lot more than myself. there's no good decision, because that decision inevitably does not please anyone and will surely piss off and see some boosters walk away.
there's still a ways to go. the have-nots need to walk away from the NCAA (because the NCAA is addicted to P4 money) but can't get themselves to. It's like the GOP & Dems. 80% of us can't stand and despise how these two parties operate now, but also can't find a way or avenue to make a meaningful alternate
What we need is Men’s Soccer to replace Football. When and If we can come up with the money to fund the program we need to do it.
Football Industrial Complex an appropriate moniker. As much as I love college football, I’ve resigned myself that in 2-3 years, it will be significantly different and there will be a greater chasm of the haves and have nots.
Move on….Beach WVB should be treated and promoted as Long Beach’s Fall sport. It is the best vehicle in getting the community and alumni back to campus in Fall. There are ways to make this happen. The admin/Tyler started this process. Work it and see it through.
Football is a money drain! It was fun when we had it and we had some great teams and games. We could not compete with UCLA and USC for fans, press, players or money. That day has passed. LBSU will never have football again. Someday San Jose St. and Sac st. will realize that fact too.
Good points. Very sad what has happened to college athletics...
to compete with the FCS schools?
Sacramento football is the SF 49ers
we need a $250 endowment to even think to do D1 football, plus a $250 M endowment to even get a stadium started or rent out the one in Carson at some cost.
Fresno could not get the city to get a bond passed to support
you could spend a billion dollars to get into the Pac-whatever or Mountain West that might not even exist in 10 years.
football is atrophiing at the youth level. It is driving so many unintended bad decisions, so why would we waste one ounce on a sport that no longer has any positive influence on much of anything?
the four football P4s will change in the next 5-10 years, as the effects of Universities trying to become pro football franchises has more fall-out. OSU & Wazzou were the first and won't be the last.
Heck, if we had Ack as the coach 6 years ago, maybe the Pac-whatever would be inviting Beach & Gonzaga as basketball only members.
but I digress.
but all the excuses apply to Sac State as well. Sac State has a new president who is a huge supporter of Sac State athletics. Look who we have...

If you're an alum from the 60's or 70's like me, this is downright depressing. Crappy Suc State moving ahead while we're stuck and sliding downwards...
