I was lucky to see Jerry at the Pyramid a couple times.
Sad day for me and Basketball. Previous Message
He had a lot to do with the GS Warriors championship run. 3 decisions stand out:
1) He was hired by GSW just before the 2011 draft. Listened to him being interviewed by the GSW radio station. He said the draft class had some really good players including an unknown (at the time), Klay Thompson who was a late 2nd rounder projection at the time. He said he hoped GSW could pick him up in the 2nd round. By draft day, Klay was now a late lottery projection and GSW was worried whether they would even get him in the first round. They did and the rest is history.
2) He recommended to the owner that they move on from Marc Jackson as head coach. He felt that GSW needed a different coach who could better utilize Stephan Curry's skills. Was he spot on about that!
3) When he learned that GSW was about to trade Klay Thompson for Kevin Love, he immediately told the owner he was leaving if they went through with that. They backed off and the rest is history. Previous Message
Definitely a sad day in LA.

Jerry West was it for me.
growing up, he was the #1 icon of athletics. The guy to model your game after. listening to Chick Hearn on the radio of a Hanford based radio station, was part my basketball youth, and the love of basketball. First video ever saw from youth coaches was of Jerry West showing how to do the jump shot with that feathery perfect jump shot.
He was LA, before and in many ways more so than Magic, more than Kobe, more than any LA athlete ever was or will be. Incredible span.
He, with Baylor, were the Lakers, then the 1973 breakthru team, then the front office success of the Lakers Showtime, then the Kobe/Shaq era.
