Well, yes an overly detailed, pie-n-the-sky plan might be a waste of money
However, in the absence of a plan, there is no plan.
Jane never had a plan, she just 'did things', like ditching the 49ers, based on what? based in part on 'made up shit' as I call it!
THere should be a plan, it doesn't have to cover everthing, but there are important things, that the AD should be measured by, not just his face-to-face yearly review with his boss
Especially now.
Each one starts with an honest assessment of where Beach is, and a 'realistic' assessment of where Beach can get in 2, 5, 10 years (IMO)
In my mind: in no particular oreder of importance
1) NIL facilitiation.
what are the existing NIL out there, the AD is congnizant of.
what NILs that would be created would further help? note that yes the AD can't run these. and yes, it isn't necessarily under one umbrella.
2) Basketball. What does M & W Basketball want to look like. We've got a decade in both that are instructive of what works and what wasn't. IMO..
a) we would like another D1 non-conf home game, there are trade-offs
b) yes, it starts with coaching, but somehow the AD has get the coaching staff involved more in the region for visibility. I get the coaches all have individual connections to clubs, AAU, etc. still, especially now that there is local guy Larry ANderson on staff. sit at home CDM never cut it
3) ALumni/Staff/BAC/City/Region cross-polination. maybe the hardest thing to ever get going
a) don't invent new groups, maybe the Dir of Ext relations should sit on the Alumni Group, maybe the Dir of ALumni should be given (without paying) a high level BAC membership, maybe same for City Council Member. Maybe the same for Chamber of Commerce. some back-scratching so that these dudes/dudetes help each other vs. being detached There should be 'no cost' strategies for this short of stuff.
4) Get rid of any reference to 'No Barriers' slogan. MUST be scrapped. Ok, i diverge
5) Facilitites.
again, this really belongs to the AD's Boss, CFO. The AD CAN NOT Fix the Pyramid, no way, now how. The University has to take this on, it's too bid a job.
a) SOccer Stadium
b) Amenities improvements.
6) Coaches.
leave alone, lol, they are great.

We've heard this before. Plans are almost always great! There literally has NEVER been a bad plan.
The issue isn't the lack of a plan.. any team of 4 MBA students can create one of those in 90 days or less, the issue is, and always has been, the lack $$$ to FUND the plan, so if he and his team are somehow successful in dramatically increasing donations and sponsorships then whatever plan they create has a chance.
Of course let's be realistic for a second. LB is in a P5 conference, without a CFB program, has literally ZERO TV revenue, the one sport that COULD generate revenue plays in a crumbling facility that most likely will be condemned in the near future and has practically no NIL program nor alumni support to speak of. Oh yea they also decided to change the school BRAND name so he has that re-launch disaster to continue to deal with.
The Pro's?
1. He'll be able to hire his own MBB coach/team in 12 months or less after CDM finally is let go.
2. There are ZERO expectations for any real national success to be accomplished
The bar (if one exists) for success is so low you wouldn't even trip over it on the street at this juncture.
Can't wait to see this "strategic plan"...

The other thing that stood out was his mention of developing a strategic plan. This is something that has been sorely lacking over the last two-to-three athletic administrations. Develop a strategic plan, with alumni/booster/community involvement, and PUBLISH it to the community.
