Dear Mr. Wynn,
Sorry it has taken me so long to get back to you. I am wondering when you were planning to visit our library – I expect to be here every Saturday in August except for the 4th. And if you need to come on a weekday, let me know so that we can schedule an appointment.
I notice that you did not respond to my request that you send an e-mail, so I’m not even sure whether you have gotten got my very limited response to your inquiry on our PGC Historical Society website. Please do send an e-mail to me at
susan.pearl@verizon.net or at our library at
pgchslibrary@aol.com
and maybe I will be able to help you.
The only property that I find associated with the Wynn (Winn) family is a 200-acre tract called “Indian Field” which was located on the Mattawoman Creek, the present southern boundary of Prince George’s County. The closest Anglican church to this property would have been the Accokeek church, which is referred to in the will of John Wynn (1752). This church, built in 1748 and rebuilt, after a fire, in 1857, was the “lower chapel” for St. John’s, Broad Creek, and is now known as Christ Church, Accokeek, (600 Farmington Road, Accokeek). Its mother church, St. John’s at Broad Creek, was originally built in 1698, and the St. John’s Church of today (9801 Livingston road, Broad Creek) was the fourth church built in its site, in 1766. You may want to visit these churches, and you can go through the records of these two churches at the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis.
Let me know when you plan to visit, and I hope that we will be able to help you.
