The house at 22600 Aquasco Road is known as the William R. Barker House, built in the 1840s and embellished in 1877. It was built circa 1843 for Maryland Delegate William R. Barker. After Barker's death in 1866, the house was purchased by Colonel John D. Bowling for his daughter Helen Mercer; at this time the roof was rebuilt and covered with patterned slate, and other features (e.g., the porch and dormers) were embellished with elegant Victorian detail. the Barker house is a unique example of its type in Prince George's County, and a visually striking feature in the rural village of Aquasco.
For advice on restoration processes and contractors, grants and tax credits, got to the M-NCPPC website (www.mncppc.org, and look under Historic Preservation) or call the Historic Preservation staff at 301-952-3520.

: The William R. Barker House - search on that
: term & you may find a description of it
: and its history. Or do you already have that
: information?
:
: The state gives a 20% credit for historic
: restoration and the county gives 10%. Plans
: should be submitted in advance in order to
: get the funds, which are given after the
: money is spent.
:
: If your friend buys it, I highly recommend
: buying historic replacement value insurance
: for the property, which is also expensive,
: but it can be changed after the restoration.
: Things can happen during a restoration that
: are unexpected & it really paid for us.

: this
: house. It is a historical house in Aquasco
: and has the historical marke on it. Right
: now the banks owns it so they aren't wanting
: to lower the price any, but I looked on the
: property search to find old sellers, but I
: just wanted to see if anybody could give me
: a little more history on the house. My
: friend is wanting to restore it and
: estimates it would take roughly $300,000 to
: do. Thanks for any information you have on
