I went to Nakansawan to get a Thai drivers license,. I lived off base for a short time. I bought a 80 cc Yamaha but I needed a licence to operate it. A couple of us guys rented some cycles from some nationals, and drove to nakansawan to get the license.. Money is all that was needed. No test, only money. It wasn't long and we were on our way back.
We had to wear helmets by base regs. Glad I did. One night while it was raining, i came into the bomb transfer area and when I hit the PSP that bike came out from under me. My helmet was really scared.
You're right, those rice bugs (as we called them) went for 1 batt. I collected them in ammo cans and sold them down town. Did you know they had a stinger in the front end. Had to be careful when picking them up.
Remember the floating market in Bangkok. I had a Thai friend who lived on the canal. When I went on R&R I stayed at his place. His dad was pretty high up in a Thai electric company.
They were really nice people.
I recall being hit on by a Katoy . I assume you know who they were. They looked good but the voice gave them away. However, you could never be sure. We were searching for a pizza place when we asked for info on a pizza joint. (found one that made American pizza).
