Ed, It probably had something to do with the union agreements. I think by changing the symbol it allowed the train more flexibility to work in-between terminals. So a 400 symbol train probably could only work Grand Rapids but a 600 symbol train could work additional locations. So when the ferry service ended it was no longer necessary to get overhead traffic to Muskegon in a timely schedule which eliminated the need for a Time Freight and allowed for the more relaxed schedule of a Local/Way Freight.
