My guess is the designation changed for two reasons: first, the terminus was changed to Muskegon/Durand and secondly, the new designation reflected the "local" status of the train, allowing for industry to be switched along the way. Perhaps it was at this time the train also became M-W-F one way and Tu-Th-Sa the other?
Again, this is pure speculation on my part. Hopefully someone can clear this up for me!
