I agree entirely that it did not become constitutionally important. But I do think that it constituted a rare mis-step on the part of the Palace. And I cannot agree that giving succour to traitors is something about which HM should be chuckling - even if that treason only relates to her Australian sovereignty.
As I said, I don't think that the mistake, which I think it surely was, ended up being important. But that it was made is significant. By 2016 it had been long established constitutionally that HM acted with regard to Australia only on the advice of her Australian Government. This, clearly, did not happen in this instance, I suspect, because as I said, because Mrs Bernici did not understand what was going on.
