still the key was his elbow was high and he swung it, and hit the guy's face. totally inadverdent, just re-look at the replay the elbow is high over the shoulder. that's gonna get called a 2 most of the time.
it's sad, it may potentially cost the team an NCAA berth, literally that critical. I think the refs don't want to be criticized for not callng a 2 with that type of motion.
besides, we made it easy for the refs to call foul after ticky foul down low, simply by not fronting guys and letting them get those low entries for like 10 or so straight possesions, it was so frustrating to watch over and over. to me that was the key to the loss. Taylor deserves credit, he pounced on that.
Disagree. I was there, and had a good view of what happened. AT was actually bent pretty low, and was trying to protect the ball from other defenders. in doing so, he tried to move the ball away, and hit the guy directly behind him. That guy was low, also, otherwise he'd have been hit in the chest. He wasn't even hit that hard, but he was hit in the nose, which caused lots of blood. It should've been no worse than a flagrant 1. I believe the only reason the refs felt the need to go to a 2 was because of the blood.
Flagrant 2 should be used sparingly, and only in the most egregious of cases, which this clearly was not.
AT had his elbow way above his head, that's unnecessary and then he swings it right into the guy's face.
flagrant 2 has nothing to do with intentions, he clocked the guy unintentionally, the refs can't ignore when a guy has his elbow above his shoulder that results in a direct blow to the face, they look and see that swinging elbow up high, it's gonna be a flagrant 2, that's excessive. they probably could call more flagrant 2s
correct call. and yeah, having AT in there would have made a much different game, and given the implications, it's close to a death knoll for seeding, and big damage to NCAA chances, sucks big time.
still guys got to make plays, and can't give up position in the lane like we did repeatedly. I just wish we'd play Lewis / Hart more vs. Silva last 3 games, I get the less maturity part, but the guy simply can't make a 'strength' play out there.
I concur about the coaches, but it WAS bad officiating. There is no way that was a flagrant 2 foul. That call was total BS, and the ejection of AT had a definite effect on the game.
It was BS, and refs involved should be disciplined. Of course, the wimps in this league will do nothing, and stand by blatant imcompetence.
the AT foul was a flagrant 2
but worse part was repeatedly giving Fullerton position down low, at least try fronting those guys, just inside posts kept Fullerton in the game over and over again
Taylor's a good coach and took advantage of match-ups. we gave their inside guys inside position over and over.
loss is a bummer
not even a 4 seed is certain with this.
have to beat Irvine now to have any shot at a 2 seed
the AT foul was a tough thing
still, after adjusting well, Monson didn't re-adjust, Polynic got schooled over and over inside
