Kids who win but are not from a powerhouse program

In this day and age, parents and kids go to schools where the program they want is. This is in all sports including wrestling. I'm sure there is some shady shit, but wrestling is the weird one where you don't get much better unless you have serious competition in a room.

So what about the kids that have won who didn't move? Do they deserve more credibility if they didn't go to a Gonzaga, Toppenish, Tahoma, Orting?

Cheers to those who won in their own backyard.

Everyone gets what they earn. Regardless of where kids go, they are the ones that do the work. Some might go to a school that isn't very tough, but they go to a great club that has helped them. Were you hoping someone would bring up your kids name on the board? Just respond to yourself and add their name. What does deserve more credibility even mean? Some of you need to put down the drinks and just get back to work.

Hmm OP has a great point. I think there is marginally more credibility to those kids who won titles being their teams only placer. Mad respect to those talented athletes succeeding while on an island.

No reason to discredit their point just because that athlete MIGHT wrestle in a club in the offseason. Thats not always the case.

Usually, they are in a good club and are competing throughout the year at solid events. The official HS wrestling season is just a part of their overall activity.

Of course, there are even exceptions to the above, but somewhat rare.

I'm not sure you can add Gonzaga Prep to the list of powerhouse schools. One year with 10 move ins doesnt make you a power house. Do it for 10-20 years and they can be up there with Mead. They will be good for 3 years then back to bottom of the league.

With that local training center G-Prep will continue to roll. Also, they will be able to compete with Orting in the next few years.

Not for sure what the original poster's intent is. However, there was a kid that was a state champ from Ferris High around 2005 or 2006. One never hears about Ferris as a wrestling powerhouse. The kid stayed at his school and earned himself a state title.

Is that the intent of the original post?

Kyle Yanago? He was coached by Tim Owen and had his little brother who was a year behind him in the room. A state finalist and 2 time placer himself. No one was surprised by any GSL success in those days
