Replays

When there is a protest shouldn’t they watch a replay? Just confering with the refs that don’t want to change their call doesn’t make sense. I watched an absolute takedown in a semifinal match then the ref changed his mind because the kid stood up right away. Not ok. That kid got robbed. All because a ref can’t admit when he’s wrong.

Perhsps he reversed himself because he realized that he was too quick on the call and didn't allow for reaction time.

Maybe stow your own ego and realize the refs do a better job knowing the rules rather than random yahoos in the stands.

It was full control on the mat whole body behind and arm around waist. It was a takedown. Then I watched the same ref do it again in a different match. I think they need to do replays. That would solve everything. Not good to screw a kid because of ego.

Sounds like someone volunteered to referee next year and show us all how it’s supposed to be called.

No just think there should be replays when the head judges have to come over. Pretty simple.

I personally like video replay so the reffing team can make sure they get the right call BUT, it is not allowed by rule in the NFHS rule book. I have used in in freestyle matches at Fargo Finals and up in BC at their Provincial Championships. Both of those tournaments are freestyle, and use a different set of rules, including the allowance of video review at certain tournaments. We also use three officials per match, instead of 1 or 2 like in folkstyle. Read rule 3-1-9 in the NFHS rule book where is says "The referee shall not use TV monitoring, replay or other video equipment in making decisions related to the match."

PS: You need to contact the NFHS rules committee if you want to try and get that rule changed. Good luck.
