Gut Check Pre-Seeds

Are they going to post gut Check Pre Seeds like Doc B, Tri State and other big time tournaments do?

I guess you get seeding criteria now for out of season competition. Example freestyle, folkstyle, and elementary school placing… just kidding about the elementary school , but serious about the folkstyle and freestyle placing.

This may end up as a three day tourney. We've wrestled one time and it's 330. Heard Bishop McCort is coming next year.

This tournament used to be the best wrestling in WA. It has ascended to the best money grab wrestling in WA. Totally overbooked the available mats. You simply cannot wrestle 64 man brackets on 6 mats. Greed abounds.
This is now the #4 tournament in WA. Viking Invite continues, by a gigantic margin, to set the standard for complete HS wrestling in WA. That's how it's done.

For the supporters of the sport, it started yesterday for Eastside teams traveling over the pass and blowing money on hotels, and local teams mostly had wrestlers at their respective schools at 4-5am. Your question though is a cute distraction from the time that actually matters: when did it end? That most important answer is 10pm. So in a 16hr period, the genius which is Gut Check Inc, figured out how to have a whopping 3 matches per wrestler. An astonishing display of piss poor management.

Gut Check, Pac Coast, Hammerhead are Washington’s notable two day tournaments and I think most would admit that they’re down.

Tri-State or Rose City best two day in the region, but neither are in Washington.

Best tournament in Washington? It’s not the Viking Invite, they have 15 or 16 teams. Well run tournament, great people? Yes. Best tournament in our state? No.

They’re still not above any of the Washington two day tournaments named above.

Viking invite is definitely one of, if not the toughest tournaments offered in the state. They do an excellent job in running it. Gut Check on the other hand is a definite money grab and sadly Hammerhead being ran by the same director will slowly degrade. They were “unaware” of the amount of coaches and teams that arrived and were super limited on the amount of food per coach… lol. Just google up the tournament directors name and once you find “it” you’ll know why him stealing money from the wrestling community isn’t a surprise. It’s a shame we seek out competition at the expense of stuffing this guys pockets. We need to somehow keep tough HS tourneys at HS’s.

Gut check is already a watered down shell of what it was even last year. Years past you had 3 or 4 state champs in weight classes, now not so much. The top schools there last year didn’t come back. Pac Coast was the same way. Just check the gut check finals brackets. Honestly sad to see these tournaments deteriorate. Rose city and Tri state still draw the good schools and competition, although they are across the border in Oregon and Idaho, but many Washington teams wrestle in those. Both tournaments are 2 days at schools and done at a reasonable time. Sounds like Viking invite is good as well.

Wrestling last match…then podium…the 3 hr drive home. Hope we pickadifferent tournament next year.

Yup, ridiculous. Way too many wrestlers for only 8 mats, long gaps between wrestling, both days ending way too LATE, long drive home. All about the $$$$

I love 64 man brackets but you need at least 10 mats not 8 to share with girls 32 man brackets.

The only thing worse than the podium at Gut Check is having to listen to a certain unnamed college coach yell over the top of the wrestlers high school coach. Some of the dumbest, cringiest call outs I’ve heard in a while. Also, splurge and put a podium on lay away for next year.
