Throw a whistle at a coach

Was under the weather last week, so I didn’t post.

When is it ok for an official to throw his whistle at a coach and tell him to officiate himself ?

The officials have it tough enough, however that is asking for it!

Coach probably deserved it! We barely have any refs we need to be kind to the ones willing to ref!

better question, why does the ref have an extra whistle to throw at a coach?

Sounds like you are anticipating making questionable calls. Try throwing a rulebook next time and that might get the coach to shut up.

1. Need more refs
2. Coaches/parents should not verbally abuse refs
3. Refs get thicker skin (expectation to have calls questioned and some yelling)
4. Refs actually read the rulebook and know what calls to make.

I've coached all over the country--IL, WI, NV, WA--and the reffing in Seattle Metro is worse than I've seen HS kids volunteer ref at a Sunday youth tourney. The kids work too hard to have a ref come in and be unprepared/unknowledgeable.

Refs in Puyallup were pretty bad but most people were treating refs decent. It’s a tough job and not the post season. It’s hard to find enough refs with so many tournaments running.

I was wondering how many times have I thought of doing this? I don't have the cajones. So, I go to the old standby and give one escape with my middle finger.

What can we do about refs that are out of line. Is there a reporting agency. Some are hostile, some are making dangerous calls while others are just not great. Something needs to be done about the problem.
