Weight Class Changes

Has anyone heard if the Weights are changing. I thought I had confirmation last week that they aren't. Now I have heard they are changing. Does anyone have confirmation on this. Thanks

Most recent WIAA round of rule changes (Mar time frame) across all WA sports didn't include changes to wrestling weights. So it would have to be a really recent thing (in the last couple months).

I'm not seeing it for this year. BUT I'm not an insider

WIAA has gone with the 14 weight option.

There were three options that we had to move to. One with 13,14 and 15 weights. They went with the 14 weights. Some of the weights from 135 up changed.

These are the weight classes from the NFHS website:
106 pounds, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215 and 285

So stupid they got rid of 182lbs. They were given stupid options to choose from. They picked the best option available, but all the choices were lame! If anything drop the tiny weights high school boys should be putting on weight not trying to stay the size of a middle schooler.

Yes agreed. Dropping 182 is a horrible decision. It will promote extreme weight cutting in those upper weights. Totally defeats the purpose of what wrestling is trying to get away from. Makes no sense, I guess it’s about the little guys

Reducing forfeits is a common theme among coaches due to their impact on dual meet results.

I don't know man..... I'm thinking keep the weight classes as they are. Don't eliminate any of them.
Dual team results be damned.

There are enough kids at all weights to support an exciting journey in the post season. And IMO, post season is what it's all about.

Thanks for the Article! I don't buy the argument their making though. I don't see many forfeits at 182 compared to the lightest weight classes. I really question that. Is what it is I guess.

Wow. I'd hate to be a 230 pounder and face a guy at 280 - can't understand how they think a 50lb advantage is fair. Don't like this weight change at all.
