Next great coach

Who are some of the up and coming coaches or current assistant coaches who may be the next coach to take over a program and do big things?

We all know the current legends. Who are some of the under the radar guys/girls who could take the next leap?

I would say Scott Kearney out of Royal City has so much potential as a High School coach. If he could get time away from the business, there is no doubt in my mind he would be our State's new great coach.

Joey Escobar..protege of rene and has been under the tutelage of Rene and Richard Sanchez for the last two years. extremely devoted to the sport and always evolving ,not to mention he’s great with kids of all ages

The next dynasty is being built by none other than Jonny Gilbertson and the staff he has brought into Arlington.

Please explain what makes them so great. It looks like the only kids that made it to state were the club kids. None of their other wrestlers qualified.

I agree with previous poster. Who is developing a room of athletes? I would say Davis girls coach, Othello girls coach, Orting boys coach, Orting girls coach are programs that show some roots

News flash! One of the Zuniga boys from back in the day is coaching now. He's the next big thing! He coached his kids to 3 state titles in the same year. I also Seen he has his own wrestling club too. Can wait to see what's next. Zuniga Trained!

I would disagree with this post for exception of Orting.

Orting boys and girls are producing some great kids. Orting boys are winning titles and girls are in the running just about every year. The girls team could be on a dominant rise just like the boys,

Davis girls did well this year at state but will be graduating few key girls. Be interesting now if they can keep up the good work and continue to build.

Othello girls are about numbers but cant produce. The past couple years they have great numbers but cant get them through to state and are not even a factor at state especially this year in the split division. Bad coaching decision cost them a finals girl. Until they can produce placers I would not even consider them in this conversation.

Moses Lake girls coach is starting to build quite the program, Curtis girls are competing, Yelm and Federal Way, Chiawana boys under Plata could be next big coach, Mead boys, Sumner boys, Othello Boys

Othello girls are competing plus they have some of the biggest numbers in the state for the last three four years. Coaches have got to be doing something right. Davis girls numbers are growing, and Moses Lake girls lose a couple of state placers so this year will be a test to see for the coach.

This thread is about next great coach. I agree with you on yes they have big numbers. Where they competing? Tournament wins is because they have numbers. What have they done at state? How many placers did they have at state? Because you have big numbers does not mean next great coach. Davis girls are growing and did very well at state. Same with Moses Lake. Other than numbers Othello hasn’t produced. I’m sorry but just my opinion.

It depends on what is considered a great coach, is it building a program or coaching kids that are all ready successful? That’s why this is a stupid thread.

well this is an davis supporter so ill take the bait.
Spot on with othello, numerous kids and talent through that room with a rich tradition in the sport but even with the former womans coach they were severely under coached.
i dont know who the coache is because they all scream the same!.
Look at the results not only in state but kids moving into college i dont know of any...
Davis has the best recruiting class bar none. the talent they had and "numbers" they are just a shadow version of othello with no serious intent to improve just win right now mentality.
Out coached and out wrestled when it counted by other programs who have put in the time to build up their program.
I dont know the coach but hes a big talker like the little guy before.
All in all they are both working to be second, third best with the like of yelm, white river and even mose lake still having quality not quantity....
Look at the numbers folks, they dont lie.

The Othello’s girls program has been making changes to improve. Sammy Rocha, longtime Othello USA club coach and assistant high school coach, took over the girls Middle School program this year. He and the Othello AD, separated the girls season from the boys and moved it to the fall, and are now competing with the Yakima Valley Schools. They did this so they could go against harder competition and give them more of a realistic season comparable to high school. As far as current and upcoming talent, Grayce Mendez will be an incoming freshman. Grace Rocha will be a Junior, and Addie Russell, will be an incoming 7th grader. Mendez and Russell have both won multiple USA State and TOA championships.

You tryin' to make it sound like new guy and AD are on the cutting edge! Separated girls programs at the middle school have already been happening. You are a little behind. It will be the same old Othello!
