4x Weight Gain

Remarkable weight class increase in each of their four State Championships

4x State Champions--RARE & dramatic weight increases each year... does this make them MORE special?
Can anyone add additional perspective?

my son may have not been at the level of those boys but he was a good wrestler all four years with huge weight growths. I think there are benefits to starting out as a lightweight and wrestling in the upper weights, you still wrestle like a little guy

I think kids that start big and end big are more impressive. You can win/place at the weight 152 or higher as a freshmen Is more impressive. I do commend the kids who are allowed to grow and their parents and coaches don’t pressure them to stay light. Some parents if their kid is a freshmen at 106 they try to keep them small in hopes of being a 4x state placer.

If I remember correctly back in 2000 or so Justin Moody From East Valley went from 101 to 215 and eventually 275.

Ben Tynan from Hanford was a 106 as a freshman and wrestled state as a 220 his senior year, went on to wrestle in the NCAA championships for North Dakota as a HWT and now has a pretty good MMA record and fighting in the UFC

2015-16 SEASON (Junior): Compiled a 20-12 record including 7-3 in duals with five pins, a pair of major decisions and one tech fall wrestling at 285 pounds ... People might help them keep their weight down during the 3 month season but I don't buy it that they try to keep them light to be a 4X placer. You are in essence saying they are trying to stop their growth. I don't know anyone that didn't let their kid get up to whatever weight during the off-season and then deal with it. In-season weight control, yes but year round weight control? I call BS unless the kid was fat and needed year round control.

Shifting weights is definitely a challenge. When I was in HS, I went 101, 108, 122... then 171 my senior year (when we went to the "new" weights in 2000). Holy growth spurt, batman!

My record sucked for a lot of the year because my old strategy of "shoot, shoot, shoot some more" was suicide against the big boys. I had to change my mindset first, then re-learn a lot of technique. This all apart from worrying about the standard HS stuff of being an awkward teenager and suddenly none of your clothes fit anymore.

Then again, when I think of Soler, Belleville, Garcia, and Sitch, I think of guys who were just so damn good that maybe it didn't matter what weight they were at.
