Good battle for the actual 1A team title

Take out Toppenish and their 725 enrollment (Orting has 588) and we have a really exciting team race. The WIAA over shot with the 40% reduction. Nothing against the Toppenish athletes they just compete wherever they are put. They have some very skilled kids for sure, they just arent a 1A team. Both 1A and 2A would be better off if they were still there. would be fun to see them and Orting battle it out.

It could be Orting but watch out for Deer Park and Elton!

Toppenish administrators should have followed what Ft Vancouver did. Football move to 1A and wrestling and basketball opted to 2A.

They were dropped to 2A from the free and reduced and then opted down to 1A in football.

You're missing my point.

16 schools with smaller enrollments than Toppenish opted up to move from 2A to 3A. Toppenish preferred to not to petition; instead moved the entire sports program to 1A. Even with the school lunch calculation they are one of the largest 1A programs.

The school could have opted up or down but chose not to do so. Not a big deal...

It doesn’t matter what classification Toppenish moves to, they win the state title regardless. They are the best team in the state and proved during the year at tournaments as well as duals when they went one on one against some of the Toppenish haters’ teams they seem to think are the best teams. Give me a break! Even the haters know who is the true best team in the state, but they will never admit it. They’re hate overrides their common sense.

Make an event of champions! State champs battle it out… wrestling schools respect each other and look forward to battle each other! Orting coaches, parents and kids respect Toppenish and any of the good schools and kids! I’d pay to watch the “Who’s who”… these are the best of Washington! I’d be happy if Toppenish was back at 2a driving the schools competition but put the schools aside and watch kids showcase themselves. Silence all the chatter and enjoy the sport of wrestling!

Agreed. Top three placers each weight would be awesome brackets to watch.

They are 50 kids away from being a 3A school and they compete against 1A schools. Seems kinda lame. They can compete and win at 2A why don’t they do that then?

While I love the kids and the way the wrestle tough, they do not belong in 1A (despite state rule changes). Its pretty lame for fans to flex when you are competing against true 1A population schools for a team title. Have they proved themselves against tougher opponents across Washington and on multiple out of state tournaments (but you can't afford school lunch?

) absolutely. Would they still win titles in 2A? Yes. Would Orting give'em a run for their money? Oh yeah. When it comes down to it though, unfortunately for some VERY talented kids Toppenish 1A wrestling will always have an asterisk by it in most people's minds. All thanks to a group of adult's (school and district administrators) who's egos are wrapped up in their team killing it. Don't be surprised when things get taken away after the state is done investigating.
