132 Logan utecht west Valley got a close win against aydin pelteir Pullman while Pullman was pushing the pace trying to get utecht to wrestle rather than stall out. Great match looking forward to the rematch this weekend.

All the weight sliding in the middle weights at 3A. Two stanwood contenders both at 132. Friends for years, now both going after the same title. Plus Niewart dropping. And everyone above dropping. Pretty crazy.

Things to look for:
1. Young skinny refs.
2. Quiet asst coaches.
3. Coaches, refs and athletes with moustaches preparing for the moustache challenge at T-Dome.
4. Mat tape in front of coaches chairs.
5. Athletes not shaking opponent's coach's hand. (this is not unsportsmanlike conduct, no rule states that it must be done)

Top Stories and Things to Watch for:

Overflowed trash cans with garbage all over the floor. Last year it was a better than the year before, which was absolutely abysmal.

Kids in Pajamas. This has become somewhat of a trend in both boys' and girls' divisions.

Overweight refs unable to even get down and count near-fall and look for possible pins. I know we have a shortage, so don't view this a slam to the healthy & fitness challenged. Look at it as a call to arms for the healthy and able to don the stripes and slap some mats.

The Blanket/Old Western sleeping under the stars Pancho (see above Pajamas). I am not sur when this phenomena arrived but I've seen it too much for my liking.

Dumb hats/ other goofy headwear and clothes on the award stand. Now the WIAA may tighten down on this more than coaches do in regular season, so this is a developing story and one worth following. Pink foam cowboys hats, do-rage, skull caps , cowboy boots with sweats tucked into them , bathrobes and GI Joe outfits have all made an appearance this year so we will see this weekend, what is allowed on the grand stage.

Jesus Shirts. From the last census bureau stats and projections, it seems there will at least 15% of the field rocking the Team Jesus gear. I'm told the druids have heavily infiltrated the girls division and are gaining heavy traction in the valley.

Roseburg HS. Sources indicate Roseburg has applied for the WIAA tournament. Since Newberg looks to have a vice grip on the title for a few years, Roseburg has petitioned Justin and company to compete for the next few years following Hermiston's lead.

Men competing in the Women's tournament(s). Still a hurdle to clear this weekend at Regionals, but intel points to a few instances which a few XY have danced to the regionals of the XX tourneys. Developing story obviously, with Seattle Times on Line 1 waiting for a possible story for the ages, celebrating diversity.

The Leader Board!! Lots of noise has been made about the Team Leader Board returning to The Dome. It's still up in the air according to our inside sources and reporters on the ground. WIAA has made a good faith effort to restore the leader boards, however they must be hauled and raised by the union dome workers (who have it in their CBA that they cannot be required to hang more than 4 of those boards. Since there is 7 tournaments going on now, it's uncertain what will happen).

There are plenty of younger fit referees who don't get a chance because of the good ole boy system the refs have. They aren't looking for the best referees, they are looking out for themselves and their friends, and seniority rules. They complain about not having people, but when they get people they hold them down.

I am just waiting for some skinny, young guy (like I was 30 years ago) to take my place so I can just kick back and go as a fan to whatever. I have several older friends in my group that are wishing the same thing. BTW, we are so thin in numbers that I think we had to tap into the JV corp to fill out the district slots and every available varsity official is at regionals. We promoted two new guys into our state rotation for the future and will be looking at more as the Medicare corp needs to move on. To move on we need a bunch more "younger, fit referees" that can get the job done to join up. Every year someone complains about younger, less experienced refs not getting to state but I here even more complaints about refs that do get to state and perform poorly. It is a two edged sword.

Thank you to the Refs! We love you and understand it is a hard job. Veteran & respectable coaches in the game understand this.

What happened to announcing who is wrestling for first place and introducing them. That was tried true tradition that has fallen to the wayside. Then wrestling 1-8th place all at the same time? No ideas what weight is wrestling on what mat.

Then why is WESCO coming all the way down to South Sound Conference. Many props to Ferndale parents driving 3 hours to see their kids wrestle in Olympia. How did this make sense other than making it extremely hard for parents to come see their kids. Or was this their idea of crowd control or Covid crowd reduction?

Disappointed at the lost of value of the kids in the sport...

Why? The whole Regional is the about the best in the SW, NW, SE, SW and then compete for state? It just makes financial smarts? In a state that complains about not having enough money for schools and cannot bus students to events?

With this logic Long Beach to Kettle Falls make sense? Thats not a regional?

It is Washington Politics within the WIAA. A region should be a region. Create 4 of them based on location not what people think. The 10 closest schools to each other are in a district. The two closest districts make up a Region. 4 regions to state. Use Google Maps... not that challenging.

Its like when you look at a congressional district in Washington... they are just as messed up.

Take all of the "educators" and put them in a room. You will usually come up with a pretty poor system that makes sense only to a few people.

Well just wait until it is WESCO's turn to visit Spokane or Hermiston for Regionals. They'll be missing that easy 3-hour drive from Ferndale to Olympia.
