Moses Lake Head Wrestling Coach

Moses Lake is looking for a head wrestling coach to carry the torch. This is a great opportunity to coach for a well established program and premier in the state over the last fifty years. Strong club program and plenty of community and alumni support.

-Desired Qualifications

·       Influential/ Role model
·       Committed to wrestling being a potential conduit to higher education
·       Be active and involved in our youth program (club, freestyle, Fargo, etc.)
·       NCAA D1 experience
·       Sound coaching/wrestling technique
·       Possess the ability to demonstrate and communicate detailed wrestling technique
·       Utmost desire to take our program to a new level
·       Fundraising

I am shocked that the current coaches are not there anymore. I thought they were good coaches just had one bad year. Hopefully they will find a good replacement. Not a ML fan but that is a powerhouse program.

They are needing a need coach ? What the heck happened to the current coach? They all did an amazing job there.

Zero state qualifiers this year (boys) might have been a problem.

That would be wild then. I mean everybody has a down year at least. But then they got rid of coaches because they didn’t produce state wrestlers I guess

Dammit hold the phone. Ariel Garza was stepping down way before the state tourney as he wishes to spend more time with own children. He overall did a good job and is a good man.

This is very confusing and unless someone has the actual facts please don't speculate, that's how shit gets started.

Ariel wasn't the Head Coach as far as I knew, it was his brother Jaime. I thought Ariel was an assistant for the boys?

There is no way any ML coach would be fired for 1 down year considering their overall success with the current coaches.

I am just curious if Jaime, Ariel, Nielsen, Tanguma are all leaving or....?

I wish them all the best and ML will be fine. The last couple years killed many programs TBH.

I have watched Jaime Garza for years, he’s a great coach! Moses Lake has been in good hands for years and I’m surprised they are looking for D1 experience? That doesn’t transcend to good coaching but I think Cooper McCollugh would be a good young coach

I dont believe that Jaime was asked to step down. Especially because of a down year. Looks like he was ready to move on with his life and made the decision. He put in a lot of hard work to keep the program where it was for so many years. The program is in a decline, but I belive that starts at the youth level in Moses Lake. There just aren't as many serious wrestlers coming up to the high school level.

I liked Jaime as a coach and I am sad to see him move on. Last time I remember seeing him was 4A finals at the 2020 Mat Classic. From my perspective as a ref in the middle I thought he had a very good demeanor in the corner. I wish him well on his net endeavor.

Jaime is an excellent coach. From what I've heard was he was actually wanting last year (2021) to be his final year but stuck it out one more year to help find a new coach and leave program in good hands. He is wanting to back off and be a dad which is respectable!!

The 2021 year I think they had a legit shot at the team title.

There are a ton of great candidates and I'm sure he'll be around helping out from time to time the way Seibol was with him.

HS program starts with youth, moses lake has slowly but steadily turned into a baseball town. Youth wrestling numbers are low, then when the great purge hits around 8th grade it tends to lean towards limited numbers of quality state level wrestlers.

Great town hope they get back on radar.

Unfortunately you are correct. The program from the youth level on is heading in the wrong direction. It would be great to see it bounce back. Their girls team seemed to do well this year. Even with just three solid wrestlers. But I don't think they are a part of the Moses Lake program, they go elsewhere for training. Outside of those three girls, they don't have much of a high school program anymore. I'm rooting for them to bounce back.
