Sadly, this will not get the attention it deserves, and his name won't get the recognition on here that he deserves. |
Qualifying for state will get you more attention on the message board than qualifying for the effing NCAA tournament. Do you people just not realize the level it takes to even have a winning record in college?
Some of our best kids EVER have gone on to get stomped at the college level. I won't name names or cite memories of the dozen+ 2×, 3× state champs (even a couple 4×) who went on to peter out after finishing 5-9, 4-11, 6-12 their frosh years in college. We have too many state champs and multiple time state champs to count who never even cracked a varsity line-up in college, let alone have a winning record. There's serious levels to this game, folks. It might make me unpopular to call the community out, but we have a kid who has done what 99% of all of the very best kids in our state's 60 year history could not do--qualify for the national tournament at the NCAA level.
This automatically ranks this young man in the top 1% of high school wrestlers in our state, ever. Don't think so? Go look at how many D1 qualifiers we've produced. It'll take you about 2 seconds to read through the whole list.
Wherever this kid is, wherever he's from, congratulations to him on behalf of a state that doesn't seem to care much about their college wrestlers. A state that would rather squabble over what ref farted in the hospitality room at the Aberdeen tournament than take a moment to name check and wish this young man well as he does what 99.9% of our state's best ever could not do.
