The real stuff COLLEGE please read everyone

So all year I kept hearing talking crap back and forth between teams, recruiting, regions blah blah blah. Now the real question is, WHO IS THE REAL COACH OR club TEAM THAT GETS THEIR KIDS TO COLLEGE AND GRADUATES WITH A DEGREE? I am so tired of hearing all the bullshit. Then to follow these kids in the future and the best they had for them is they were a 2-4 timer in high school, now works at the local Conoco gas station, if they are lucky. We coaches need to do better with really making a difference not just keeping a kid happy in high school. Life goes on after high school coaches and clubs.

Bryce Buckley-3rd in state as a senior for CHS. Graduated from CBU (D2 at the time) with a Masters and just accepted a phenomenal job with his wife in Utah. Wasn't a world beater, but was in he line up, won some matches and had a great college experience.

Tyson Stover-2nd in state senior year at CHS. Just named Academic All Conference at Corban (NAIA) and earned a wild card birth to the NAIA national tournament. Senior by credits and freshman by eligibility.

Talavera bros from Union seem to be doing well towards getting their degrees at SOU. Noel Orozco from Connell is at Eastern and will graduate this year and have a year of eligibility left.
Maybe the problem is Washington coaches/parents pushing D1 when kids would have a great positive experience at a lower level? Maybe our kids get pushed too hard as little guys and burn out? We need to be celebrating these WA kids who are getting it done academically at the lower levels.

I remember Bryce! That kid was a freaking stud! Thought he’d win the state title. But still very respectful always

We have a share of college wrestlers out there right now doing well.

Yes! Celebrate those who are thriving and I love the recognition that D1 isn't necessarily the best fit. D1 sports are all consuming. Not everyone has time for that

Encouraging kids to think about all aspects of their college career is important: can they afford it (a wrestling scholarship generally isn't a full ride; can they afford the school if they leave the team?), Is the program a good fit, is the School a good fit, is the location (size, distance from home) a good fit, are there academic programs that are a good fit?

Truth is...if you have the undeniable talent, the grades, and aren't a problem it is impossible to hide.

Coaches can vouch for you but that's about it.

This is across all sports, not just wrestling. It is impossible to slip through the cracks if you have what it takes.

There are so many factors regarding connecting of high school athletes and college programs. Biggest factors in my opinion are:

1. Is the high schooler interested in college.

2. Grades.

3. Mindset.

4. Open to any college division.

4. Accomplishments.

Of course there are multiple factors beyond what I listed, and these factors are not in any kind of strict order.

Don't get too hung up on the college division you wish to wrestle in and remember there is a lot of money to give outside of division 1.

High school coaches and club coaches can help, but ultimately if a kid wants to wrestle in college it is up to them.

Academics count as does need based aid.

D3 has no athletic money.

My child would have loved to attend a specific D3 school, but even with over 50% of tuition covered by an academic scholarship it would have cost far more than an in state school.

D2 and D3 count on other means for scholarships...D1 only has 9.9 full scholarships to give, NAIA and JR college can have way more money to give. For example, some JR Colleges have 20 full scholarships to give..
