Latest news and requirements

Hello All, I just want to say that it is nice we are starting to talk about the season as that is where our focus should be, for all our sanity! Outside of the recent mandate plan we just heard about, and concerns about events taking place and coaches unable to be in the room we all need to plan and support for the upcoming season, the kids need us grown ups to do that. No one remotely likes what is going on but I'll be damned if these kids have another year like last year. Instead of conforming to the political aspect I think it's best to put that aside and focus specifically on wrestling at this time as a community. Let's put our efforts in fighting for the kids to get a full season of duels and tournaments, help fund raise for in state trips if they can't go out of area or overnight. I can tell you this, I hear a lot from coaches, AD's, parents, WIAA and NFHS as a tournament director. There is hope amongst the crap we are living in with this pandemic, and we need to rise above for the kids! This brings me to the point of this post... |
I have been contacted by other tournament directors regarding the status of their events. I am sure most of you know Hammerhead and Olympic Duels was officially cancelled yesterday. I know that some coaches have already been put on leave from their positions for this season even with religious or medical exemptions. What this community needs to do is find the events in areas that may not be so quick to shut things down and create/support opportunities wherever possible.
All events this year are important, but more so necessary. I had my pre event walk through at Showare this week and they are, even with the new requirements, moving forward 100% with Gut Check. I know many coaches have been actively posting duels and smaller tournaments on the board trying to build a foundation for this year. IMO, if a test or vaccination gets events to take place then I support that for the kids to have a season. I don't like that it's mandated, but none of us do.
"Marshall C" on the board created a really great list of boys and girls tournaments scheduled for this season, if you scroll down a bit on the board page you will find it. I know I have helped teams get into Tri-State and other events when called as tournaments directors and coaches need to be working together, and not just this year in time of need but moving forward. There is such a divide amongst the "wrestling community" in WA and pandemic or not that needs to stop.
Let's be proactive in getting the wrestlers the best season we can, what we control is enough to do that! Good luck to everyone this season, thank you coaches for standing by your teams and communities, and thank you officials who are doing whatever needs to be done to have matches!
