Wearing a mask during practices and matches?

Does anyone know if this will be mandated?

I have heard from a couple of parents that emails have been sent out stating masks must be worn during practices and matches.

If this is the case I will not have my kid wrestle with a mask on. Beyond being dangerous it's plain stupidity.

Provide all the waivers needed, and if someone is that afraid, whether it's a coach, parents, or wrestler, STAY HOME.

Might just be my opinion, but I'd rather see seniors get to chase their dreams, with a mask, than sit at home, without a mask...

I was hoping more people wouldn't just accept what we are "given" by the state or school districts.

Name a sport where oxygen is demanded more than during wrestling?

I just can't believe the wrestling community would accept this when the college wrestling season is currently going without a hitch and not a mask in sight while they are wrestling.

Pure stupidity.

I agree that risks are low enough in near future (now?) for kids to wrestle without masks. But to answer your question: I would say swimming has a greater oxygen demand and an even greater risk of hazard wearing a mask. Good thing they don't have to.

Now imagine if someone is trying to drown the swimmer. That would be more equivalent.

To be fair, swimmers wearing a mask is equally as stupid.

I'm pretty sure most of those institutions have athletic department budgets that are larger than high school budgets... Schools assume liability for the students, and aren't willing to get sued because they couldn't provide safe conditions, indoors(ventilation, PPE, testing, etc). I understand the sentiment to "get after it", but for a school that's backed by government dollars it becomes more difficult than "just do it". I'm still unsure what the problem with wearing a mask while wrestling is. Is it that they look funny? Is it that you can't see people's chins? Do they make your ear's feel weird?

Any chance you've been following the dozens of States that have allowed their sports seasons, including wrestling, to continue unabated?

It becomes more difficult in a State where parents accept rules made by the most in fear.

If you believe a child should be wrestling with a mask that inhibits their ability to breathe in any way simply stay home.

If there is too much risk don't do it.

At this point with the thousands of children who have wrestled around the country in tournaments without a single reported death from Covid), people need to get over themselves.

It they can't keep your kid at home with you.

It's very simple.

Need proof things are safe? Open your eyes and look at the 1000's of matches done this past year without issue.

Want to believe the computer modeling? Stay home and enjoy that.

You still have avoided my question. What is the objection to wearing a mask?
It's not that I believe wearing a mask while wrestling will slow spread because that's ridiculous. I want wrestlers to be able to chase their dreams that they've spent years working towards. My season was taken from me this year because the institution I wrestle at decided to not participate. I trained with a mask early on(not dead) and would gladly wear a mask to get that opportunity back. Why are you letting your political agenda come before your kids aspirations? One step back, two steps forward...

Only biden loving sheep, would ever think masks are still needed. Do some research, this china virus rarely does anything more than give a kid a headache for 10 minutes but most of the time it DOES NOT AFFECT THEM. It's not our choice get a clue! If this is what's mandated indeed this is what I will do my team will do to get some kind of season. It has nothing to do do with your political or personal feelings it's about getting a season for the wrestlers. If you don't want your wrestler child to participate have them watch from home through zoom while the rest of these wrestlers are having the season they so badly want Baaha

To live in and vote for left-wing socialist leaders who are just a little bit smarter than the unwashed masses. Granted you didn't really have much of a viable option in the 2020 governors election. It almost seems like the states republicans are in league with the left given the morons they put on the ballot to challenge Sir Jay. Witness the recall movement in Cali and the quagmire Cuaomo is facing in NY where he thought playing God meant he could say whatever he wanted to female employees. At this point if your kid has to wrestle with a mask just consider it another piece of equipment like headgear,etc.And as long as his/her opponent also has one then game on.

If the WIAA says we have to then we will but I do think we need to heard by whoever makes the rules. I really don't think discussing on a thread gets us anywhere. My question, how do we get heard? Who do we talk to about this? Who do we write to? When I think about this I feel people who have no idea about the sport of wrestling are on zoom making our decisions. Does anyone have an email, or phone number of someone who deals directly with this kind of issue?

You make a good point. So far all the people I know are bending over to take whatever they are given.

We need people standing up with logic and what is best for our kids pointing out the countless number of matches that have happened without incidence this year.

Someone with a brain limited oxygen exchange in any way during sporting activities(especially wrestling) can hurt performance, distract, and cause cardiovascular problems.

When King Jay's minions determined that restauraunt/hospitality workers not deemed essential employees in part due to the grief the industry constantly directed toward Inslee during the lockdowns.After enough people protested that it was a blatant attempt @ retaliation they were suddenly deemed essential and elegible for a covid vaccine.

I think there can be an apples to apples comparison via NCAA and other States where high schools had full seasons that show limited to no risk for wrestlers to compete and practice without masks.

If someone believes there is too much risk they can CHOOSE to mask up, or CHOOSE not to wrestle at all.

Don't we all realise that heavy breathing while wearing masks can cause micro fibers of whatever the mask is made of can and probably will cause lung cancer, just like asbestos did. Wake up...wearing a mask does not (especially in a contact sport) do anything. The young are not at risk to anything more than the common flu. This is totally a political pandemic and nothing more than we've somehow survived in the past. YOur current government has pulled off the greatest hoax in US history.
The real travesty is the current school aged students that have fallen behind and will have to deal with the mental issues that will follow them for the rest of their lives. Their science is just a crap shoot that changes weekly. How long?

1) don't wrestle
2) wear the mask and die of cancer
4) refuse the mask and join our hero Ammon Bundy in jail.

No need for hyperbole.

Masks covering your air holes cause a serious issue with oxygen exchange right?

This can and will create a problem in performance.

It will stress the lungs more than typical. This will stress the heart more than usual. This could have a massive negative effect under great deals of aerobic and anaerobic stress.

If you or your child is afraid of Covid-19 so much and the impact it has had on children worldwide, FYI it's less than 200 total deaths(all being obese or massively immunocompromised), have them stay home.

Advocate for the freedom to wrestle and practice wrestling without a muzzle.

Just how long do think a mask will last in a 6 min.match. Between tying shoelaces, fixing headgear, blood time, and replacing face masks, a 6 minute match shouldn't take any longer than 45 minutes.

I have seen or heard that masks will be required for practices or match ? WIAA site say masks off the mat . Is there actual info about this some where ...... or just a reason for people to complain .

At some point the powers that be will have milked this power grab as long as possible. My guess if you go to Fargo this summer I am confident that masks will not be a requirement. That goes for spectators as well as participants. When Rand Paul starts calling BS on masks I think they know the jig is up.

Ok...I may be a clown...or not. All I'm saying is we will not know the ramifications of all of this legislation/pandemic rules for years to come. My main concern is that this generation of kids that have to deal with the mental and physical damage that is being thrust upon them be stopped.

So, as I see it, we are in agreement that masks are stupid...at least for wrestling? How about no handshake before and after a match causes more risk than the 8 minutes of physical battle? I really feel like we are kind of on the same page with the hyposcricy? Not meaning to make more divide, just creating to conversation to unite our great nation again. Sorry if anything I type offends anybody.

Ultimately parents should decide what is best for their child.

NO mask? Fine. Sign a waiver that covers everything.

Mask? Fine. Be an idiot and sign a waiver.

Don't like either option? Stay home.
