Gut Check postponed

Good afternoon All,

Today I was notified that Washington State has retained The Showare Center for a vaccination site effective immediately, and through July. Our scheduled date of June 27-29th was obviously affected and I have moved the next event back to it's original time frame in January 2022. Having rescheduled twice to try and give the wrestlers an opportunity it just wasn't to be, but we tried hard. To all the wrestlers and families traveling outside of WA I wish you the best of luck and as much mat time as possible!!

DONT get the vaccine if you want to live another year. Do your research people. Why would you put something in you for something that kills less than the common flu? How is this going to change your life even if it did work? you can still get sick, still wear your mask, still social distance. Do you know how many people have already died or have had adverse reactions like Bell’s palsy and extreme continuous convulsions, permanent rash, other illness, ect. 🤦‍♂️

Thanks for the effort you put in to try to keep Gut Check alive this year. As you said, it just wasn't meant to be.

I know the high school season is not confirmed, but I think it looks much better as more people get vaccinated and infection rates decrease. I'm sure hoping there is a way to fill every Sat with tournaments during the short season so the wrestlers get as many matches as possible in the short season. A good rule change would be to up the matches per day to help fit in some bigger/better tournaments this spring for these kids.

Why not reschedule at the Hub in Spokane? Have we all not forgotten that bigwrestling events have been held there in the past?

That is not a bad question or option. However, our current corporate sponsors are in the Kent area, and the tournament generates a lot of funds back into those sponsors and the city the week of the event.

Although we have been profitable it is a very expensive tournament to put on, and a lot comes out of pocket before tickets are sold and team fees come in. The City of Kent has awarded us a 30K grant the past 2 years which we are grateful for, and that money comes from business and lodging tax funds from throughout the year. That grant covers our venue expenses and is a must to have. Most cities and of course businesses got hammered last year from Covid and the funds are non existent.

This year we had surrounding cities partnering with us to make it happen as they were geographically close to Showare. G-D knows all businesses need income asap and with the addition of the duels and women's event we had nearly twice the competitors committed.

I'm not quick to throw in the towel so I will reach out to the Spokane Sports Authority and folks in Spokane I know well. Spokane is a great town and with the airport and hotels would be able to host GC this year. I will have to identify what rules for Covid apply to Spokane County as well and see if it's feesable. I will let you know what I find out and see if the sponsorship is even available.
