Funny how all preseason people were on this site getting dragged through the mud for recruiting, but nothings ever been said about CDA taking Washington's top wrestlers in Drew Roberts and new recruit from Clarkston via Blair, Rylan Rogers.

Roberts wrestling for his uncle at CdA. Hadn’t heard Rogers moved there, thought he was still at Blair.
It makes sense if you are wrestling in a state that can’t compete to show up in a state that can.

Lots of kids just looking for opportunities to wrestle. Nobody recruiting anyone but wrestlers want to wrestle. Some of these kids can't afford to be idle. Roberts is headed to Minnesota and Rogers hasn't committed but probably has a few programs interested.

Agree. Quite a few Washington kids have moved to Idaho the past few years.
Rogers is a junior and he gets a lot more exposure at big tournaments for Blair. He’ll land on his feet wherever he wrestles.

Spokane wrestling is still going strong. They've been cranking out national placers of all ages. Mike Pursel has been really trying hard to keep the sport alive in the area

Exactly!... but how do they do it?? Did his family move to CDA? Did they lie? The IHSAA said no transfers for sports would be allowed. Do they make up a hardship?

Don’t know process of various schools but when we moved We signed my kids up for schools in the new town and they started attending classes and practicing when the season came around. My kid was a mid level varsity kid so nobody probably even noticed, LOL.

Happening in EVERY sport. Volleyball girls moving to Arizona, Cross Country athletes moving to other states. 2021 is going to be a wash soon also. Its going to get ugly...

I think it’s important to kids. If I still had a kid involved in HS sports, damn right I’d consider moving if I could find work . Wrestling and football were my kids life, I can’t imagine what these kids have been going through. I’ve talked to many and been told that several football players went over borders this fall and even went back right after season! I saw the boy from Heritage ? Transferred to Utah.. and Kelso lost 2 good kids in one year.

Sounds like your kids' football and wrestling were, and apparently still are, YOUR life. They're not on here posting after they've (presumably) graduated and gone on to other things.

Suggest a reasonable alternative besides having your kid sit at home all day and stare at a screen. Don't try saying that the wiaa's 6 week glorified intermurals are at all close. Some athletes and their parents realize that it is a very limited window that they have to compete before as you say they go on to other things.Don't begrudge someone that does something besides sitting @ home wringing their hands and having a pity party cuz Inslee says we can't have sports.

Not sure who "All their transfers" are but the CDA/Post Falls Press needs to print a correction I guess. According to them CDA beat Post Falls 37-33 last Thursday. 1 kid doesn't score 37 points Congrats to the entire CDA team!

Sounds like a great dual.
Not sure if they were referring to dual or tournament scores when they said CdA wouldn't beat PF, 2 different animals. It will be interesting to see how this pans out in postseason. Should be some great wrestling, wish we would see this in Washington.

The Rogers family live in Idaho, so it was pretty simple to go to CDA with kids and coaches they know. It's great that Spokane and other WA areas are still wrestling "underground" but our state hasn't been the most stable about school/sports during this pandemic and the governor is very unreliable with these issues. That said Blair/NJ was in disarray like us and the choice was made for Rylan to come home to his family, a smart choice. Rylan is a great student and athlete, and many D1 colleges are looking at him so to get back in school and on the mat is a priority as he is one of the best HS wrestlers in the country. We all know he was bred in WA like his cousins and consider him a WA kid anyways so why does this even matter, we support the kid and his great family! He is such a polite, humble, genuinely nice kid so WA can take pride in that representation. CDA or wherever he is a positive influence. I really hope the WA kids get a chance this season since there are no guarantees.

Rogers do have a rafting business all over Northern Idaho as well as a house there. As far as Roberts' is concerned if kids in other states he knows need to start school and get on the mat then it's fine by me if he let's them know what's available in Idaho. Call it recruiting or whatever but as mentioned in ALL sports around the country kids/families are moving to states with more normalcy so they can have opportunities. Strictly my opinion, but there is a huge difference in recruiting and cherry picking. A guy can tell others how well his program is doing or what great partners are in the room and it will attract others. Nothing more than a store putting things on sale to attract customers. Now the aggressive coaches/cherry pickers who go out of there way to call or visit or schmooze a kid away from their current team into their program and maybe even exaggerate to lure them is another deal in itself. Rogers and the Oregon guys heading to CDA especially with this ridiculous Covid crap is fine by me. As far as a kid losing their spot for any move in well they either fight for their spot or get better practicing with the guy who beat him. Life's full of challenges!

What seems to be escaping many of you is that many states aren't back to the normal routine in their schools. I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but it's had a negative effect on our kids. Depression, obesity, domestic issues, suicide... It's not a good time to be a kid with all the uncertainty and isolation. There's your "hardship" for ALL kids not just your athletes. If everything was back to normal I'm sure Rylan Rogers would be 2500 miles away, getting an incredible education and absolutely some of the best wrestling opportunities. I think most parents would be nervous to have their kid living in New Jersey just a short drive from DC, New York, Philly...in this crazy and messed up Covid/political environment. Yeah give me Idaho.

why are people only picking on the Rogers kid? I believe that Nathan Gregory from DP and Shale Webb from Kelso both wrestle for Idaho teams. No one is attacking them. In a pandemic year, let them wrestle anywhere.

Again, the Rogers have a house in Idaho so not even sure why this is being discussed. Plenty of WA kids, more than the two or three mentioned, have moved to Idaho or elsewhere. The people upset are the ones who's kids can't beat them and will "lose" their spot. Roberts picked up and moved from Spokane and lives with grandma in CDA? No one fussed. Lilly moved to Idaho and no one fussed. Gregory and others have moved along with Oregon and surrounding states since Idaho is close with a few good programs, and they can even go to school to learn....what a concept!! Blair and NJ had issues like we did in WA and an elite student athlete cannot twiddle their thumbs waiting, they have to move forward. No offense to CDA but Blair even in a Covid year wipes them all over the place so no one can say he left for competition reasons. I say good for ALL high level student athletes to do what's best for them and their families - not the opinions of a few miserable people on a message board who don't have to pay for these kids college tuition, and that's what's really on the line here for these kids and families.

The difference between Gregory and Webb, is those kids moved in for the entire season. Moving in with only 3 competitions left before their regionals is extra lame. It sure can't be about "mat time" either. Not for a kid at his level. There is MAYBE 1-3 tough kids per weight class at 5A. No offense to Idaho at all, and not sure if it is an off-year in the Gem State, but there just isn't that much competition this year. I have seen kids from our state going to duels and tournaments across the country, who are getting more competition at one tournament than this kid will see in Idaho. If there is a shortened season in WA or NJ, it can't be any shorter than coming in when the season is almost over in Idaho. So Lame!

I have not see Rogers compete since Pinto beat him up so bad.Talented kid I don't see Idaho being any challenge but I guess Robert's is a salesman.

@ OKthen. Your opinion is your opinion, however you're missing the bigger picture and the MORE important part. I'll spell it out for you..

1) Rylan's family lives in Idaho. If not at Blair which is all online, why not be close to family.
2) Idaho has actual classes in actual schools with actual teachers taking place.
3) They don't need "underground" wrestling happening because it's allowed there and they can practice/compete.
4) Idaho has actual classes in actual schools with actual teachers taking place.
5) You seem very worried about Rylan and where he is going to school/wrestling. He and his family have their reasons that are none of your concern.

The Pinto comment was absurd but that had no effect in my post. Rylan is the #2 ranked kid in the country at his weight and I think #15 P4P. These top kids beat each other regularly so what is your point? Were you ever as good as the kid your bashing on the board here? Doubt it.

I think it is great that Rogers is able to wrestle but if you have rules they should be followed.

Just so we are all arguing about the same Idaho rules.

8-14-1 Bona Fide Move

If the parents of a student, or legal guardian in case neither parent is living, make a bona fide move to a new permanent residence in the attendance area of a school to which the student transfers, he/she is immediately eligible provided an Athletic Transfer Form is submitted and approved. A permanent residence is the actual physical relocation by the parents or legal guardians of a student at a new residence and termination of all occupancy of the previous residence. The
change in residence must be bona fide and used as the address for utilities, registration for voting, registration for driver's
licenses, registration for motor vehicles, identification cards, and the attendance zone for other school aged family
members for a minimum of 365 days. For the purpose of eligibility, there can be only one residence.

Rental Policy

If the parents of a student move less than fifty miles from their present residence and rent the new residence,
the follow information must accompany the Athletic Transfer Form:

1. Letter from parents explaining the move.

2. Letter of support from school filing the request.

3. Letter of support from previous school.

4. Copy of rental agreement.

The IHSAA Executive staff or Board of Directors may approve or deny varsity competition if circumstances warrant.
Parents, students or schools that provide false or misleading information will be subject to Rule 15-6.
a. A student who transfers to a new school in advance of the parents move will become eligible the day the parents
move into the new district, providing all other IHSAA requirements have been met.
b. The student may remain in the old school until the close of the current semester or until the close of the school
year and remain eligible at that school.
c. The student may transfer to the new school at the time of moving or any time thereafter during the school year or
prior to the beginning of the ensuing school year and be eligible upon enrolling in and attending the new school.
d. If the student does not transfer to the new school within the time periods provided in (a), (b), and (c) above, the
student will remain eligible at the original school but is ineligible at the new school unless otherwise approved by the
school from which the student transferred and the Eligibility Committee.

American Falls and Post Falls, specifically a former wrestler, were a big deal on here a few months back with kids moving for the pandemic but this one's defended

I remember watching that Rogers kid when he could take that big name kid down! The only difference was Big name kid was a Jr or Sr in high school and Rogers was still in Jr High. Keep talking about the Pinto match if if helps you sleep though

Bottom line is the Coeur d’alene coaches and admin as well as the wrestlers parents lied to get the wrestler on the team. The Coeur d’lene AD is a long time wrestling coach and has two kids on the team.
This wrestler is living with a teammate, they do not qualify for athletic eligibility on any level. They do not reside in Idaho or the Coeur d’alene district. As a tax payer in the district I do not agree.
The fact that everyone is ok with the lies and let’s be honest “cheating” is not ok. What are you teaching the kids?
I don’t know this wrestler or much about him, but I’m sure he is a great kid. Not his fault.

Rogers is living in the district and the family has multiple addresses including a residence in the district. Due to covid restrictions parent is currently working from home and can work from anywhere including that address within the district. Move on.

For Gods sakes who cares where the kid wrestles or or any other kid who wrestles plays basketball football soccer baseball ect ect there is very few options for kids so let it go and be happy for them that some states are allowed to participate in sports. It's better than the alternative Oh gee that would be us.

This isnt the first rodeo for Roberts. They left from an oregon school after he got fired fkr racially harassing one of his athketes that was compromised of just about a whole line up of transfers. Sure they went on to score a state record amount of points but little respect from the state was given to this feat.

Ok sir/ mam. Enough of the non sense. Let me set the record straight for the people that want some truth. #1 I was not fired from OSU for what you say. Yes there was a certain accusation from a particular individual. It wasn’t accurate of course, but if you want to believe that crap, go ahead. I could show you documents for what I was let go for, but I’m technology challenged to post said documents , and frankly it’s 1.not your business and 2. I’ve moved on and really don’t wish to rehash what was personally and professionally a terrible event and very challenging time in my life. There was a reason that I was ultimately given a settlement from said institution and it wasn’t because I was in the wrong. I know the truth and that’s good enough for me.

Moving along, I was not at Crescent Valley HS when a single kid transferred or moved in to the district to attend the school and wrestle. I’d appreciate if you could get your facts together before posting libelous information. I was not living in the state when any of those boys enrolled at CV. This is smart move by Rogers Family. CDA has an incredible coaching Staff. Not only Kevin Roberts, but Jim Guilio is a top notch coach as well. He won multiple State titles at American Falls, and a NAIA national title as an assistant at Montana Western. Also Gunner Guilio is a great workout partner. This also gives CDA a shot at top 3 in 5A if Drew Roberts is back healthy by Districts, with 3 probable state champions and a few other placers. I think Meridian is far and away the best team in the state, but the race for 2nd just got more interesting. JMHO.

I'm going to dismiss all the conspiracy theories and criticism as COVID CRAZY and clear the air. If Washington has a season, it's going to be late Spring. Pushing the season out that far will conflict with freestyle season. Washington has always been competitive in Greco-Roman and Freestyle with dual teams, Fargo, World teams... By not having that season at all last year it robbed some kids of some big opportunities. In addition, Washington always has several kids that potentially could be wrestling in college. If you're one of those kids and you're sitting around waiting on Inslee to give you permission to wrestle...good luck with that. It's real easy to fall out of wrestling shape and realize how much you enjoy things like food, video games, sleeping in... Unless you're banking on student Loan forgiveness still being a thing, you might also want to look at the current and rising costs for tuition. If you're still waiting for Inslee's permission to wrestle your Tinder account is a better bet than a scholarship. Hate all you want on the kids, parents, coaches and programs that are making it possible. It's got nothing to do with team titles and everything to do with development and forward progress. North Idaho is a stones throw away from Spokane and the surrounding area. We'll take Burnett, Bundy, Roberts, Owens the Moffitts...every time. Drew and Gunner aren't bad to hang out with either! On top of all that, if you don't appreciate where you live you should spend 2 years in NJ. I've always told my son that what he does off the mat is just as important, as what he does on the mat. Lots of knowledge and plenty of comic relief that comes with those coaches but what they do when they're not wrestling aligns well with the Rogers family! Happy to see my kid's wrestling getting better every day and really enjoy seeing him grinning again!

You can go straight through CDA line up and you will bearly find a kid with a winning record who actually went through there youth program. Rodgers didnt, Guilio didnt, Roberts didnt, Randals didnt. I will bet right now that kids who actually went through there kid's program don't score 30 points at the state tournament. If these coaches were so great these transfers would be the icing on the cake but they are the whole cake. Someone posted that CDA has three natty ranked wrestlers. CDA GOT three ranked wrestlers when Rodgers moved there, when Roberts moved there and when the girl Randals moved there. Outside of transfers they have zilch.

And yet they still managed to beat a powerhouse like Post Falls in a dual. Your math skills seem common core because it feels like someone needs to draw you a picture. It sounds like they must have transferred for the excellent education and face-to-face learning that they were denied elsewhere. I mean if the coaching staff is that lousy why would 3 nationally ranked kids go there? It certainly wasn't just to beat PF in one dual. Although you got to admit it would have been fun watching the PF coach snap...shouldn't leave your playbook laying around.

And still zero denial of the fact that the majority of CDA points are coming from other clubs. Any trophies CDA has over the past few years disappear if you subtract transfer points. Replace Rodgers, Gulio, Roberts, and Randalls with CDA kids and CDA doesn't come with in 30 points of PF or Lakeland. There match with Lake City takes on a whole new look. Common core...common sense. Name CDAs best kids and youll go a ways before you can name one that came through there youth program. Truth hurts. Sorry.

It is funny to see all this talk about the "transfer problem" in Idaho. No talk of Lake Stevens, Sedro Woolley, Tahoma, etc like we usually do every season. Nothing to complain about here in Washington except for the lack of wrestling. So they are bored here so they start to talk about Idaho transfers. This is really funny. We have nothing much else to talk about right now so WTH.

I would rather kids have the opportunity to compete. If Washington is so fearful and won’t open schools, the kids shouldn’t be punished for it. I am an Anti-recruiter, but they need the opportunity to show their skills and potentially wrestle beyond high school.

Post Falls was on here actively recruiting with their boy in the Summer. Their church group needs to pick it up, they were doing better in the past.

Yes I remember they recruited my sons teammate yusief. The whole play book they go to Able DelaRosa house for dinners. Talk about the real life and all. It’s actually really great because you can act like a complete Asshat as long as you repent on Sunday. It’s an a holes dream!!

Actually Drew Roberts did start in Buzzsaw Program and was his first singlet besides a University of Minnesota. He was born in Cd'A as well.

He didn't compete first 2 years of club.
Yes, because parents jobs took him to Corvallis. Now journey has changed and opportunity to compete for his Uncles, with cousins, and friends since diapers. Everyone seems to be very Super grateful even if the road had some major bumps along the way.

I appreciate that Kevin Roberts and Bob Rogers took the time to respond to these posts. I learned a long time ago that the best way to stop a rumor is to just come on and post the facts, just like this two did. They didn't email me and ask to delete anything. They are stronger than that. When people just answer the questions, it ends the topic. It is so simple, just tell the truth like they did.

If I read Mr Rogers post correctly he is saying that he didn’t wrestle in Washington because the season is to late and his kid would miss free/Greco season. So his kid is wrestling in Idaho . So did you buy a house there? That is the requirement, it is against IHSAA rules to move for sports. You cannot rent or use another’s address. If you do you lose a season of varsity athletics. Unless you have a hardship.

There are lots of rules and they would just have to read them to see many ways to enroll legally. Besides the rules you can also get reviewed for a possible waiver by the Idaho sports association. Maybe "the transfer is to or from a Boarding School"? I don't know the rule but there are many options available besides "buying" a house.

11.Transfer and Initial Promotion Eligibility (Rule 19).
You have:
a.Not transferred from your prior school to your current school for Primarily Athletic Reasons, or,
b.Enrolled at your current school for the first time as a 9th grader, or,
c.Transferred from your prior school to your current school:
    And at the same time you and your parents made a bona fide move to a New District or Territory, or,
    Because you became a ward of the court, or,
    Because you became an orphan, or,
    Because your prior school closed, or,
    And your prior school was not a member of the local state athletic association or was not accredited by the local state accrediting agency, or,
    Because of a school board mandate for redistricting which involved your prior school, or,Because you enrolled or attended, in error, a wrong school, or,
    And you transferred from a correctional school to your current school, or,Because you are emancipated and you have now moved to a New District or Territory, or,
    And you did not participate in a contest for another school or for a club team during the preceding 365 days, or,
    And your prior school was not a member of the local state athletic association and you have moved back to reside with the same parent or guardian, or,
  And the transfer is either to or from a Boarding School, or,
    And you are a qualified Foreign Exchange Student under an approved CSIET program for one year, or,
    And at the same time your parent or guardian just took a licensed or certified position at your current school, or
