What to put under mats

Ok
We are currently ripping out the old carpet that is under our wrestling mats in the practice room. It is all the way down to the concrete now.

If you could, what would you put under the mats?

I would suggest new carpet unless you can properly seal the concrete with a moisture barrier product. I would definitely not paint the concrete.

I’d put underlayment under the mat if I could. Extra thin foam layer and helps with moisture as well.

If you have a decent budget you should do a floating judo floor in wrestling room!
