Hope everyone is well

I would like to wish everyone a very Happy Father's Day. I know we are all wanting to rip our hair out during this crazy time but to all the coaches, officials and fans who are fathers first I hope you have a great weekend! |
I would like to share with you what I know and some Gut Check updates as we crawl through this process about wrestling (let alone sports and school in general). As I'm in close contact with WIAA and State admins this is what I was told as of Friday. Now keep in mind everyone is being very PC and not saying anymore than they have to which is also not very defining.
WA schools will start on time in the fall. There will be no practices or competition before Labor Day. Fall and Spring sports are not being flipped. All sports are expected to take place. Wrestling is more of a concern in comparison to other sports. There is a very good chance that wrestling will only have it's district duels then go straight to state with no regionals or weekend tournaments.
Keep in mind that things are changing frequently and who knows what will come of these things I listed next week or next month. All of what I mentioned came from the WIAA, Health Department or from Olympia but it's from decision makers.
As far as Gut Check goes, we are planning on it happening and also adding the women's tournament as well. Just like other top tournaments and camps, we have to stay hopeful, positive, and plan on putting the best event on that we can. If the rug gets pulled out we will have to deal with it then.
After speaking with the Executive Directors in California, New Jersey, Texas, Florida, etc.. We are putting together a back up plan for Spring and hold GC as a USA or other sanctioned event so our wrestlers can still get the opportunity.
There are so many uncertainties and I hope we can all work together in getting through this crap. I've read some posts earlier and I know and feel how upsetting this is for all of us but we have to play the hand we're dealt. It sucks but such is life.
I hope everyone stays healthy and we can plow through this sooner than later. I have to sometimes step back and remember that as pissed off as we all are how the wrestlers must feel and this is really about them.
I hope we can utilize the board in sharing updates. I will only post updates that come from legitimate sources I can trust. Wish you all the best!
