I like the hires! Don't know a lot about Engle, but he sounds like a good get. IMAR brings instant credibility to kids considering OSU.

Engle is an excellent recruiter as proven at Navy a few years ago and at Stanford that last two years. He has an extensive greco background. Of course IMAR needs no description. Since he is training for the Olympics there must be more RTC moves happening. Pendleton, Engle, IMAR a volunteer assistant to be named and the RTC has OSU looking very promising in the years to come.

No names made public yet - still interviewing for the volunteer position. Engle has extensive experience in greco and CP with freestyle and will both be working with the RTC - which is now called "The DAM RTC". Had a big donation come in (and others) for the RTC, which will obviously bring in athletes.

How extensive is volunteer interviews? Mainly background check and such? I’m in Oregon from time to time with work, and would like to drop in and help out if possible. Is it pretty open most days to anyone who wants to? Where do you interview with all the social distancing? Over computer, email etc?

Good to hear the RTC got a big donation, I think the most successful RTCs will follow that model - courting big nest eggs from private donors or companies.

Nate will be a great help on that front as he has that national/world experience, with bonus points for being a great guy too. OSU snagged a good one.

I don't have inside knowledge, was referencing Idahoregonian comment above. Definitely hopeful they can pull it off though.

Penn State's rtc has $6 million in assets currently, according to their most recent tax return. Their tax return is a good example of running an rtc. They managed to increase their net assets, despite operating costs of about $800k. Seems like that was accomplished through continued individual donors and investment revenue from their other assets. If you can get a nest egg into the org, you can basically operate it into infinity from investment dividends alone. If we can get more rtcs with that sort of financial engine powering them, we'll be in good shape.

The "club" you mention is associated with the most successful college program over the past 10 years and is a training center for World Team members. I don't know of many college programs that have the clout to command that level of donations, let alone to endow a program in a state away from the epicenter of wrestling. Do you have 1,000 people ready to donate $6,000 each for the endowment? That is a lot of cash to be just laying around looking to be spent. College wrestling nationwide will be facing some tough decisions if the COVID economic problem isn't reversed fast. Money may be tight next year. Just reality.

I know all that. The point is the money came before the club team members for the most part. Without the money the people aren’t there training. They are more expensive than a fair number of college programs . The assertion was just how crazy that is and we don’t unfortunately have a team for our boys. Very unfortunate.

I should have qualified my statement a bit more. You are correct that mathematically you can't run it to infinity with these particular numbers. In this case your assets might yield ~120-180k a year, without harming the principal (conservative 2-3% yearly withdrawal). They'd need to 4x their nest egg to actually do it (which they might be able to do), or cut spend.

Having ~180k a year guaranteed budget is a huge operational shift though, as it can change your mindset from short term survival thinking to longer term thinking and free you up to take more risks to help promote and grow the club/sport without fear of folding.

Lots of nonprofit organizations operate this way, with dedicated staff to court large donations. Most high end humane societies, for example, have one time donations make up a serious chunk of their operating income on the year.

All this to say, I hope elite clubs & RTCs can figure out a way to get some big donors in the door, as I think it could help unlock the sport a bit more.

I would like to see them add somebody with NW ties, too bad they did not retain Meeks. They need someone who already has strong relationships with the high school coaches in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho. There's a lot of good talent right here in the Pacific NW. As a former high school coach, I saw too many good kids go unnoticed and go elsewhere.

In every interview CP has stated he is committed to keeping Oregon's best kids at OSU.He has made that very clear. Between him and IMAR they will dip into California as well. The best recruiter of the bunch is Engle. In his Zoom Wednesday he stated that they are getting calls from kids all over the country right now and that recruiting is going very well. With only 1 graduate more recruiting will be generated in the 2021 class.

Coach Pendleton is going to recruit Oregon kids for sure, it's their backyard. Oregon has always had talent. He did a good job picking his Assistants. Looks like Zeke's blue print. Perry coached IMAR. Engle role sounds just like Pritts' role. It will be interesting to see who the RTC Head Coach will be and which Sr. level wrestlers will join. I hope the Beavers gets the funds needed to at least match ASU's RTC.

Both OSU and ASU need kids from Cali to get the job done. Who is going to wins the recruiting battle for Cali kids between OSU and ASU over time? This is going to be a very interesting and exciting.

Yes it will be exciting! When a team in the West gets stronger its good for everyone in the West. Would love to see some of Washington's finest head south to Corvallis. You make some good comparisons about roles on the coaching staff. A lot of California kids have been heading to the Big10 lately- especially this year.

It's only 3 mins. Look at the full title and listen to what they say. Now picture ASU and OSU current situation. It's going to be very interesting in the years to come.

Top Cali kids have many options. You are absolutely correct. Lots of great programs and kids down there. But I will only talk about Gilroy and St. John Bosco for now. I don't have to tell you who all came out of JUST those two schools alone. Right..haha In the past OSU had the 3x D1 AA that came out of Clovis. Now picture OSU getting the lion share from JUST Gilroy HS and St. John Bosco HS. WOW

If Gilroy's head coach is the same person, who is an OSU Cowboy. Put a Beaver Nation flag at Gilroy. Pendleton gets the lion share from there moving forward. Perry did coach an NCAA Champ form Gilroy, but history has shown Okie State Cowboys support each other.

Now for St. John Bosco HS. If Z$$$$ is not at ASU RTC next year. The Beavers will own St. Bosco HS. IMAR is with Titan Mercury. If Z$$$$ jumps on Titan Mercury then goes to be at OSU's RTC. OMG Not only would the Beavers get the lion share from St. Bosco, they would also get the lion share from that entire area.

If Titan Mercury gives OSU's RTC the same level of support as Sunkist does ASU's RTC. It will be very interesting to see how things will play out over the next 4-6 years.

I look forward to watching Kaylor, Mckinney and Dixon over the next 3 years.

I agree- with the whole staff having CA ties it will get very interesting between ASU, OSU and I think Stanford as well. Z staying at Sunkist which was big for ASU. Bright future at OSU for sure. McKinney came on late after struggling. He looked jacked at 174...It seemed he may have struggled with the weight cut some. Having a whole season there with proper weight management might see him jump a level. I was hoping Drury would end up at OSU and it's bummer that now the greco coach of the year is at OSU. Hmmmm.

I agree. I would have liked if they would have retained Meeks. Pendleton is big on having a good character building culture. I believe Meeks would have fit in well and plus he is an awesome guy. It would have also been nice to have seen Ryan Wheeler and Maka Yacapin as Beavers.
