From my seats I was primarily only able watch 4A, and some 2A, so I can't comment on how good or bad wrestlers at the other weights looked. |
The most impressive wrestlers I observed.
Drury- Fun to watch, always looks fast, but never hurried. He seems well liked by his teammates and even his opponents. Seems like a nice kid
Mikesell- The HW from Central Valley looks like a man among (really big) boys. I don't know if any of his matches went past the first period, or he was ever in the down position. Every time I saw him, he was on top just grinding on his opponent
Isaiah Gonzales: My wife described his a boa constrictor. He seems slow and deliberate, then strikes frighteningly quick. Once he had his grip on someone it was over. He controlled Malychewski the whole match, which I assume rarely happens. He is very methodical in his style.
Wheeler: He was in control of his match for first 2 periods. Johnson seemed to catch him by surprise with a throw in the 3rd which Wheeler seemed to barely escape. Otherwise, he was never tested the whole tournament.
Quintanilla: He and Randall had another battle. Unlike at regionals where they went back and forth, like two boxers exchanging blows, Q seemed to be in control the whole time. The only reason I'm putting him on this list, is I think he has a great chance to be a 4 time champ. He has great technique and body that hasn't fully matured, he is only going to get stronger.
