It's not just the WIAA. There have been coaches from around the state calling for a straight to state model for nearly 10 years. The Wiaa part, imo, is that they just couldn't afford to run the regionals anymore. or finding space for them was getting harder. My understanding is some of the coaches thought process in the straight to state model was they would get their more deserving kids into the state tournament.
