As a parent and coach of a son and daughter who both wrestle I do see more differences in ability level in the girls wrestling than the boys. More girls tend to start in middle school. While the numbers are way up there are still fewer girls who start at a young age. Until they get to high school often those girls don’t really get challenged unless they do regional and national tournaments. Consequently I see more parent/ coaches making their daughters do catch and release type wrestling against less experienced girls. I personally can’t stand that type of wrestling. You don’t get better beating on newbs. To get better you seek out better competition. When my daughter wrestles less experienced girls I tell her to work on one or two different takedowns and something new on top and then just finish the match. Practice is for practice and not a match. Save your juice for the finals. I don’t ever want to discourage a new wrestler because they were used as a wrestling dummy by someone who is clearly more experienced.
