She is definitely a rare athlete, but girls wrestling in Washington has always been ahead of the curve because we were the third state in the country to adopt it as an official high school sport with a sanctioned state tournament. There was once a time when we had multiple girls that were ranked 1 or 2 in the country, but now our highest ranked girl is 4 or 5, I believe. Using her as an example just proves the point that our state overall is bad and getting worse. Libby is also coached by her father, a two time division 1 all-American. Her situation is very unique in this state. If you look at the boys national rankings, I think we only have one kid ranked and the girls have about 10 or so, down from last year. Washington parents need to stop patting themselves on the back when we get one great result and focus on improving as a state overall.
