The WIAA is responsible for the change, not the Coaches Association. For years, a majority of coaches have consistently voted to structure state this way. While you may see this as "watering down" the competition, others recognize it as a system that ensures all the best wrestlers can participate in the tournament. The goal is to give more athletes a fair shot at making it to state, and your version of "watering down" might just be making sure the best talent actually gets to compete. As for the new way off seeding, anything has to be better than what we had before. It was the only tournament of the year that was not seeded.
