Bruce Cook, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and esteemed member of the community, passed away on August 5, 2024, in Meridian, Idaho, at the age of 84. He was born on March 29, 1940, in Bellingham, Washington, to his loving parents, Issac Cook and Thelma Curry.
Bruce was a dedicated family man and is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Helen Cook, whom he lovingly cared for and cherished. He is also survived by his sons Scott Cook and Brad Cook, along with their respective wives Selena and Yolanda. Bruce found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Michael, Madison, Niki, and McKenna, who brought light and laughter into his life.
Bruce's commitment to education and learning was evident throughout his life. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Business Administration and Education, setting the foundation for his successful career as a high school teacher and wrestling coach at Meadowdale High School in Lynnwood, Washington, where he dedicated 30 years of his life to shaping the minds and characters of young students.
In 2009, Bruce's contributions to the sport of wrestling were honored as he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame for his lifetime of service and dedication to the sport. His passion for wrestling extended beyond the mat, as he instilled values of discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship in all those he mentored.
Bruce had many hobbies from hunting and fishing to playing tennis. Tennis by far occupied the majority of his time after retirement. You could always find Bruce on the courts at Skagit Valley College during the summer time and then on the Mesa Regal courts in Mesa, AZ during the winter months.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Issac Cook and Thelma Curry, as well as his brothers Bryce and Lloyd Cook, who he cherished deeply. Despite the loss of his loved ones, Bruce's legacy of love and compassion lives on through his family and the countless lives he touched.
Bruce Cook will be remembered for his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to his family, his students, and his community. His legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to have known him. May he rest in peace, knowing he made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
