1) Potential elevation in competition is always a good thing.
2) More entrants help the tournament numbers financially.
3) Kids get more than one crack at a Regional and if unable to wrestle at one due to personal circumstances or conflict they have other chances.
I know that kids come up here to compete in the NW Regional because it's the first one of the FS/Greco Season and it allows them to deconflict with other major national level tournaments that go on later in the year which may conflict with the Regional closest to them.
Additionally, it's a Fargo Qualifier, so they are able to get their qualification out of the way early, AND if they fail to qualify here, they have other regional tournaments they can attend to hopefully get the required placement.
In some kids cases, there actually may be more to it then the above. The Northwest Regionals is perceived as not being as competitive as other regional tournaments, so in theory a Regional title may come easier up here, which then factors into future potential seeding at both Fargo and with other events such as Dual Team tournament seeding. A USAW Regional title also may award some flexibility in what weight they compete at in Fargo as well.
