"All:
The office has been made aware of a thread on a message board about postseason weight allowances that is causing confusion for some of you and leading to questions coming to the office and Weight Management.
In the WIAA Handbook, section 47.0.0 is for the high schools. The Weight Management overview document on MyWIAA is what governs the high school season and outlines the growth allowance and how consecutive days are handled for postseason events. Your athletes were provided with a two (2) pound growth allowance on January 1. As stated in the program overview, "One (1) additional pound will be allowed for consecutive days of wrestling in post-season qualifying tournaments. Example: Second day of a post-season qualifying tournament: 106 = 109."
Section 47.61.0 in the WIAA Handbook is what governs middle schools. The confusion is coming from 47.67.0 where it talks about an additional pound on February 1st. Again, this is for MIDDLE LEVEL ONLY.
TO CLARIFY: For this weekend's tournaments, your kids will still have the two pound growth allowance for their tournaments. IF you wrestle in a multi-day event for your league or sub-regional event, your kids will get another pound on the second day of that event. Please see the example again listed in the Weigh Management Overview Document.
Thank you,
