I think the rankers do an extraordinary job as volunteers because they have the knowledge and passion to do it but it is a secondary job and all off them have to allocate time resources. I also hear that officials and coaches are "paid" so they need to work to the level that the people watching want. Again, "pay" is a relative thing and I know some refs and coaches that take a big pay cut if they have to take time off work to work as a coach or ref. Back when I did the original rankings for 10 years by myself I spent countless hours on that and porting brackets (before trackwrestling took over) because I was obsessed with wrestling and seeing the results and getting them out to others. You can only burn bright like that for a certain time frame and then you slow down before you burnout.
Many readers here are burning white hot because they are in the years when there kids are competing and living on adrenaline. I know, I was there, I that is when I started to develop my sleep issues. I remember a fellow college posting on the board many years ago that he didn't know how I worked, coached, reffed, ran the board, etc. He said I must never sleep and he wasn't too far off. I don't do near as much now and I do get my sleep now. Expectation have to be tempered and they have to be relative to the situation at hand, not just your wants.
I think that vast majority of readers here will understand and agree with what I just wrote and some others will just be pissed off at me. Thats okay, I'm used to it by this stage of the game. I just wanted to share my thoughts on this.
