Pro athlete: Every call should be made correctly. Some of these athletes have given most of their lives at a chance to compete at the HS state tournament. There should be little room for error on the best refs in the state. That match was atrocious, that official asserted himself in the match and made it about him. Period. We have that in the finals every year. These guys are graded on how technical they are. I see it every year at the state tournament. Someone will lose on a caution, a technical violation, something dumb. The official could just say, "step on the line" but instead they want to be a participant in the action. I personally think it is petty and stupid.
Pro official: there are honestly not enough of them. We look at and see they are not that good. Especially the new ones coming up. You need more officials to be able to weed out the bad ones. It just doesn't exist. There are far to few officials and at the end of the day, every one of them that is available, is welcome.
Anti System: I would be curious to see what the grading criteria is for officials to be in the state finals. Is there an incentive for giving stalls, cautions, or Technical violations? What does that grading sheet look like?
